Pre-race routine:

Is getting lost a routine? Apparently I wasn't the only one confused by the directions or lack thereof. There was a convoy of us that all came in together after we ended up at the Lake Anna Beach Marina that was locked and closed. Oops.

Not much. Got my chip, got marked up, looked around, picked up the socks they were giving away (YAY free stuff!) Hosed myself down with the silicon tri-spray made for wetsuits.

It was a bloody BEAUTIFUL day!
Event warmup:

Got in and swam a bit. M40-44 got bright pink swim caps WOOHOO!
Swim
  • 19m 22s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have no idea what happened but the swim felt like it took FOREVER! Didn't tire, didn't get seasick, just felt like the swim that never ended.
Just got the results in. It did take forever!

Note: First OWS, first time in wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

I believe I don't need the wetsuit until the water is below 70 or so. Too much trouble for not enough pay back.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

First time in T1 with a wetsuit. Not bad. Had it to my waist before I left the water. Got helped out of the water and hoofed it to the bike. Slid one finger down the inside of one of the legs and got that leg out then stepped on the suit and did the other leg. Easy enough. Grabbed my bike and started stepping out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It all went rather well
Bike
  • 39m 4s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.09 mile/hr
Comments:

There were a couple groups of rodie bikers who rode in echlon left formations. That made passing just about impossible and they would wave you to pass on the right. "I'm not going to make an illegal pass, get over!" There there's this whole pack of them riding each other's draft and taking turns pulling.

Other than that, it was a nice course. The road was a bit rough as a well used asphalt road gets but it was okay if you stayed in the right tire track of where the cars tended to go :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I was happy with the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I don't even remember this transition too much which tells me it went swimmingly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 28m 22s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run. I ran a bit faster than I thought I could and I was waiting to blow up the whole run but it never happened. That made me happy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around. Had some of the local stew, it was GOOD!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This is my first year doing these things. Let me have another year of them and we'll get back to this question. I've just been happy as a clam that I can do them.

Event comments:

This was a well put on race with some great volunteers. It's on my list of ones to look for next year!

Looks like you had a great race.  We did have a beautiful day and you pics were very nice. Pink caps for men over 40 is FUNNY! Enjoyed your RR.

I've been grumbling most of the day since this came out. Gotta work on the swim. Gotta get OWS experience!
That's the first time I've broken 19 MPH average on a ride of over 10 miles and I'm not going to argue at all with the run time but that swim sucked!

I loved the course. The people were great and the day was one they write stories about
