Swim
  • 17m 10s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought I was doing alright until I looked at my watch and said 16 min with like 50+ yds to go still. Not sure if I was going too wide or if the course was longer than 850 yds. The extra time was only 1' more than expected so it's not that bad. Caught a BUNCH of the previous wave, which was a b!tch to swim through since they were breast stroking.
What would you do differently?:

wetsuit perhaps; it seemed like everyone else had one
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Swam until I was in less than a foot of water. Cap and goggles off before getting up on seawall. Found the correct rack on the first try. Shoes were already on the bike; helmet on, shades on, all good. Ran with the bike out of transition and noticed I had the dang shoes still velcroed shut. Oversight during setup. Had to stop and fix that at mounting area.
What would you do differently?:

Other than the mental error during TA setup, it was an awesome T-1.
Bike
  • 38m 18s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a fun bike course, just a few rollers; had to get out of big chainring twice to climb a couple of the hills as I didn't want to burn out my legs with. I think I have ridden less than a 100 miles in Sept, so I was taking it just a little easier than I wanted. The course was really crowded, and I didn't see a single race official out there, and there was quite a bit of drafting and blocking going on. Even people that are riding solo were riding in the middle of the lane. Bless their hearts, but come on; it's an open to traffic course; get on the right and let people pass safely. I don't remember much of the course as I was really focusing to get my HR down for the first half, but it never did. So I just ran with it and made sure I didn't make my legs burn.
What would you do differently?:

Power up the hills; know the course better beforehand.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Another good transition; found the bike rack on the second try. Socks on; shoes on good.
Run
  • 24m 33s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run course; this was the first time that I was able to get under 8 min miles during a tri so I can't complain. Taking it a little easy on the bike helped with that I believe. I don't think an age grouper passed me (maybe one did, can't remember) on the run, and I got by one, so that is another first! It was a solid effort; the miles weren't marked so it was nice to just focus on consistent pacing and cadence.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. good run.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched, water, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of bike training, lt chop in the water

Congrats on a fine race. I agree that there were alot of people drafting and riding in the middle of the road.  I almost had to pass someone on the right because of traffic coming. Nice speedy run and congrats being in the top half of the AG!
