Subject: RE: The way campaign ads are going...surfwallace - 2008-10-16 1:42 PM
I watch quite a bit of TV and I can honestly say I haven't seen any of these negative ads. All we get is Obama ads (apparently McCain has either run out of money or thinks he has NC in the bag) and they are nice. It was interesting to see that topic come up in the debate last night.
I think what ads you see is a function of where you live... Candidates are spending their advertising dollars most heavily in what they see as key areas to sway the election - meaning they are targeting areas that they percieve as helping them get the magic number of electoral college votes they need to win. I live in the Philadelphia media market. Philly itself has a history of voting solidly democratic, but the suburbs have historically gone more republican. However, in recent years, the dems have gained a lot of ground in the suburbs. There are a lot of votes in this region in a key battleground state, and I suppose both candidates see this area as important to their overall campaign strategies. We're seeing all the ads - negative and positive, but definitely more of the negative.... |
