OK all of those in the Plano/Frisco, etc. area I am looking for info on run routes, group training, etc.  in the area.  It looks like I will be moving on or about the 1st of November.

Richardson Bike Mart rides on Saturday - I believe they are at 8:30 - will be moving to 9:00 for Day Light savings, about 25 mile ride, with hills.  There are some great routes in BT listed in Plano and Frisco for rides as well.

Some BT'ers leave from the Starbucks and Frisco to get a good 40 to 60 mile ride in - usally posted when they leave.

Lots of group ride options from BikeMart in Frisco and Richardson as well as PBA with lots of rides in Plano. Check the 2 sites below.

As far as running goes it probably depends more on exactly where you will be located. Plano has quite a bit of walking/biking trails that I use a lot for running. I can get to it easily from my neighborhood though so I don't have to drive anywhere.

If you have more specifics on the neighborhoods you are considering, we can probably help narrow it down a little more.  In addition to the free, weekly Richardson Bike Mart rides, I can recommend the following training groups:

North Texas Masters (NTex) -- a masters swim team that meets 3 days a week at the Nautatorium in The Colony  (Not to be confused the North Texas Masters governing body, of which it is only one of many members.)  Contact Dave Young ([email protected]) for info on the NTex group.

Negative Split Racing - coached by Gerald Jackson, this group meets in the Northwest Plano area for a variety of running and cycling workouts each week.

X2 on Negative Split Racing. David and I both train with them and Gerald is my IM coach. He's great and the group is great as well.

For running, there is a Luke's Locker on Legacy by the Tollroad (Shops at Legacy). I know they have weekly runs and also marathon training programs. Lots of knowledge in the store as well.

Also, go to mapmyrun.com and look up Frisco or Plano runs. You'll find a lot of routes nearby. I live in Frisco and even though it's obvious what's near me, I've found some different good long run courses that way!

Great info folks.  Thanks a bunch. What pools are good for lap swimming, i.e. not overly crowded fairly decent hours, etc.  Neighborhood I am going to be living in is just off 121 and Preston.

There's an LA Fitness there.  They have several around the metroplex and (I think) all of them have a lap pool.

I have been with the YMCA in The Woodlands for years, I done a good reconnaissance on the area, but not sure of crowds/useage.  Any experience with the YMCA just off Preston in Plano?

I haven't heard anything bad about that YMCA.  You might want to check out the Plano Rec centers.  There is the Tom Muehlenbeck Center on Parker between Preston and Dallas North Tollway.  It runs $160/yr which includes unlimited usage at all Plano rec centers.  If you want to join the Plano Wetcats Masters Swim Team the cost is $400/year that INCLUDES the full year of rec center membership and 18 opportunities to swim each week.  No signing fees, etc.

I use different rec centers throughout the week since one is closer to work and the other is closer to home.  The convienience and price make the rec centers and Masters swim a bargain.

I run at Russell Creek park all the time (where that YMCA is located).  I would suggest you check  the hours it is open.  I know it seems closed some of the Sunday mornings when I go past.  Of course, I've been known to run really early/late, so this may not be an issue.

(The running trail around Russel Creek is 2.5 miles, btw.)

Which neighborhood?  I'm just a block north of the Heritage Park baseball fields on Hedgecoxe.
