Can anybody recommend a second tri for me? I did Rambling Rose 250 yd swim, 9 mile bike, 2 mile run. no problem. I could have gone further. Ended feeling really strong.

I want to stick to pool swims for a while. So what beginner races would you recommend? I looked on trifind but I'd prefer a personal POV. I am a weak swimmer. Still taking lessons. Rambling Rose was perfect because the pool was so shallow. Hopefully by the time tri season starts up again, I'll be better at swimming.

Any thoughts?

What part of NC are you in?  MAP in Charlotte is a 500yd pool swim, 12 mile bike, and 5k run.  The run course isn't the best but a good race.  The race sells out in the first hr or so after registration opens though so you have to be quick.  Statesville YMCA in the Try Sports Series is about 300, 12, 5k but kind of hilly on bike and run.  There's some other pool swims in the Asheville area and Winston area, but I'm not as familiar with those.

Congrats on your great race!

Riverwood is a good race - it was my first back in 2005. It's in April and has a 300 yd pool swim. Not sure about the depth, but most lap pools are not real deep.

PS: it's put on by Setup Events and is in the Trysports series (shown in orange on their website).

Thanks for the info on Riverwood. Looks like that's a good one. The idea of signing up for the series is tempting...but I have big plans for '09. A full marathon. So maybe I'll hold off on the series and pick one or two tris to mix things up a bit.

The full is going to be Portland in October 2009. They give you 8 hours to finish. And from what I hear about a third of the participants walk it. So I'm not feeling too pressured. Just plan to take it slow and easy and get through the 26.2. Not even really racing, just covering the distance. So that makes me think I might be able to sneak in a couple of sprint tris. I plan to use biking and swim as my x-train anyway.

Thanks again. As soon as Riverwood opens up for new registrations, I plan to sign up.

I second the vote for Riverwood.  It is a fun sprint early in the season and lots of BTers are there.  It's a good next step from Ramblin Rose.
