They are both very good brands and they're competitors at the various price-points in their lineups.

To broad of a question for us to really help. In what context? What type of bike?

Trek uses older carbon technology from what I heard last as they do more local and not in Asia if you are looking at carbon bikes.

For upscale bikes I'd never consider a Trek. Starter bikes Trek is fine and my daughter has one.

It really is all about fit. Shop around talk to lots of shops, and don't limit yourself to one brand or another. Ideally the shop will fit you for a bike more than standing over top tube and recommend which fits you best.

Coke or Pepsi?

Both are good brands, and any one trying to tell you that one is better than the other is just defending their choice in taste.

Both good, depends on what YOU want!  I have a Specialized Tarmac S-Works, but would have been just as happy with a Trek Madone I'm sure.  I built the S-Works myself.  I call it my internet bike since everything came from the internet except for my saddle.

I was looking for a nice carbon frame for less than $800 and if I had found a Madone or a Felt or a Cervelo or a Giant or.... I would be riding that instead of the Specialized.

Good luck if you are searching and remember, fit is the most important issue, not the name stuck on the frame!

Agreed.

Two of the biggest bike brands in the US, neither of them stands out from one another.

why does everyone think the treks are junk? at least they still make thier carbon (and some of thier aluminum) bikes in the states. guess where specialized and cervelo carbon frames come from? personaly I ride a trek ttx 9.0 and I love it. just my $.02. I just dont understand why everyone thinks treks are junk.

Making them in the US means they are using older technology than those making their frames overseas...it is a few generations older technology. Many think as things get improved nice to get the newest technology which is hopefully better.

Best bike to buy one is one that fits you so you enjoy riding it.

Let’s put it this way… it’s the motor not the machine. Both make great bikes. Lance won on Trek’s (and a couple litespeeds) and Macca won on a Specialized.  Putting both on a 1990’s Colnago most likely would have yielded the same results. I am going to go with it’s a personal preference…

Gucci or Armani, who cares. It's you that matters. If it fits and your comfy on it then buy it.

It's just because Cervelo is the popular make at the moment and I don't think that anybody has won Kona on a Trek in recent years.  It doesn't mean their bikes are any worse though.  In reality the bike manufactured by the best companies are all but identical in terms of performance.  The only thing that differers is the geometry.
