Hyannis 1/2 Marathon - Run

View Member's Race Log
Hyannis, MA
United States

Sunny
Total Time = 2h 10m 4s
Overall Rank = 799/1020
Age Group = 50-55
Age Group Rank = 18/25
Pre-race routine:

Had breakfast at Ellen's house--homemade oatmeal with strawberries made by chef Mike. Two cups of coffee.
Event warmup:

Had my GU and more water.
Run
  • 2h 10m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

My run was good up to the ten mile mark. I was moving along at between a 9:30-9:45 pace, but my IT band (knee) started giving me problems. The last 3.1 miles was a painful and frustrating gallop, but that's racing!
What would you do differently?:

I would probably wear my knee brace, and perhaps run the miles faster with walk breaks every 10 minutes so it averages out to a 9:30mm. This way I would reduce the pounding on the knee.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around after taking the timing chip off. Stretched and had half a bagel. Hugs to all my fellow BT people, then off to Ellens house for a nice shower and lunch. Oh, and also had my Endurox recovery drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

IT Band (knee)

Event comments:

My only comment, is: How can you eat Chili after a race--YECH!!

Good race Evelyn. I checked my time and I was only 2 minutes slower than Hartford. It was fun getting together again, and meeting new people (Kevin, Susie, Katie, Mike, Glen, Nicole).

Nice job running through the pain, Evelyn! Glad to finally have met you, and THANKS so much for bringing the great spaghetti sauce and MEATballs!

Anyway, you didn't seem too sore after the run so you must be doing better already! Or was it that huge Vitamin I that Chef Mike gave us? (OH BTW, I hope you don't get sick - I handed you my water glass to take your pill   I'm a little under the weather)
