Subject: Marathon 2 weeks after mini-sprint?

I'm trying to plan out my "big" races for next year.  I'd like to do the Mini Mighty Man in mid-April and the L.I. Marathon in early May - best guess is that 2 weeks separate the races.  I haven't picked a free training plan yet, but I have two questions:

1)  Is this sequence of races reasonable

2)  Should I pick a marathon plan and add tri-specific work to it or should I pick a tri plan and add marathon work to it?

This will be my first triathlon, second marathon (in 10 years).  I haven't set a time goal for the marathon yet.  My logs don't reflect it, but I've been running steadily for the past 6 months and sporadically for another 3 before that.  My A-race will be the Nations Tri in September.  I'm assuming I'll have plenty of time and base fitness to prepare for that race.

you may be able to mix to programs together... the main thing you have to worry about is frequency.. as you know there's ton of running to prepare for a marathon.. and for a tri you have two more disciplines to factory in. you may have a couple bricks in you future (bike/run) what's the distance of the sprint?

I think I would combine two plans.  The tri plan for my swimming and biking and the marathon plan for my running.

Its a mini-sprint:  400 m/ 6 mile/2 mile

That's even shorter than I thought - I might be able to just do it with just a little biking and swimming I can squeeze in.  Famous last words - I hope this little tri doesn't kick me in the ....

I'm going to find two training plans that I like and see how they can be shuffled together.

I did a half ironman two weeks before my August marathon, and PR'd both.

I would just follow your marathon plan and when it calls for cross training, use those days as cycling and swimming days. You don't need a lot of training for 6 miles on the bike or 400m swim. Just make some of those cycle and swims count - intervels hard with a purpose.
