Pre-race routine:

PB & bagel at 6:00 with coffee, 1/2 bananna. Power bar at 8:00, Chocolate GU at 8:30 AM with lots of water
Event warmup:

Short tempo runs and stretching

Comments:

Run went really, really well. I was shooting for 8:30 splits on the first 6 miles, and the first 5 were right of the money. I may have slipped a bit miles 6-9, but then kicked it up a notch again to finish very strong.
Fuel - 24 oz of 50/50 gatarade/water mix, 1 choc. GU at 1/2 way point.
Beat my brother by over 4 minutes, and he is a much better trained runner than I am.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Warm down:

The end was painful once I stopped. I just had to keep moving (although slowly). After 10 or 15 minutes I was able to stretch some which helped. Downed an Endurox about 30 minutes after the race.
After the awards and raffle, we went to Madison Bear Gardens, and had hambugers and a pitch of Sierra Nevada Wheat - that helped the pain a lot!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I ran the best race I could have done at my current level of training.

Need additional speed work, tempo runs and long runs to move up to the next level.

Event comments:

The water stations were spaced pretty far apart - and the one about mile nine ran out of water for the second loop. I carried my own bottle in a fuel belt, so I was ok but the other runners were dry......

I lOVE IT - you beat your brother "the runner" - well done _ I read about it in the triathlon talk forum and it just made me laugh!
Legendary performance!

Thanks for the "atta boy"s everyone. What a great way to start off the 2005 season. Now the hard part will be "sitting still" for a few days to let everything heal - my new bike is calling to me.....Thanks again,Dennis
