Three of us are looking to start a mentor group with Wisconsin/Illinois/Iowa/Minnesota people doing IM WI in 2009.

We need a someone to volunteer to be a mentor that has previous IM experience and is willing to provide advice and support.  We would also like to meet to ride the loop several times over the summer, do some bricks after riding the course, and socialize afterwards.

Anyone interested?  Anyone want in as a mentee?

I was thinking of taking on a group but not sure time would warrant, but could probably help doing this by committee.  Lemme know if you want me to help mentor.

Ditto.  I'm not fast like Joe or Jim, though.

I'm in for my first IM!!  Feeling a little lazy right now like a lot of you, but trying to start a bike focus right now.  It's hard having to be on the trainer all winter (I live in the Rockies at about 8500 feet) but just need to get motiviated.

BUMP for the New Year!

I think with the number of cold spells, snow, "heat waves" and rain/sleet conditions we've had, we'll be ready for just about anything!

Hello:

I really would like to do participate at the IM-WI. This would be my first IM. I have done a number of 1/2s and Olympics, but never the real deal. I looked at the website, but the registration is closed. I am a deploying soldier, and I will do most of my training while station in Iraq. I should return to the States a few weeks before this event. The question is: does anyone know how I can register for this even?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

You would have to check and see if they have any community fund slots left.  They cost quite a bit more money but if available are about the only way for you to get in now.  Good luck and stay safe.

There aren't any IM WI community fund slots left.  The only race that is currently offering community fund slots is IM Canada.  You can watch this year's race and sign up for next year (if you're gonna be around) the day after this year's race.

Hi Everyone!

Did anyone stay at the Doubletree in downtown Madison for IM before?  Do they provide a shuttle or early breakfast?  Any info anyone has about this hotel would be great!

Thanks!

The comunity fund slots are open again. If you want a slot here is your shot. They moved the site

 http://www.ironmancenter.com/commfund/index.php

Since WTC bought NAS that is the new url for NAS's races except IMCA.

Is anyone else having trouble staying motivated this winter??  I go a few days feeling great and excited about the up coming season and then bam....I struggle to get out the door.  I think this winter getting to me.  Summer I need you back.Wink And I need some advice on if I should to the horrible hilly or take that time to go and ride the IMoo course.  What would be more beniffical to me?

Having done both, I'm not interested in HHH anymore. Its more about the story to tell friend and laugh about how much you wanted to throw your bike in the ditch when done

You'll see more benefit from riding the actual course. I ride it a few times every year...

Hey Bob, I plan on doing the horribly hilly and as far as motivation I'll buy the Guiness after you get your 62 miles in at HHH.

I have not done HHH but did Dairyland Dare.  If the choice is to do either or, i would recommend checking out the MOO course instead as there are some spots you should be aware of such as the descent with the hard right that opens up into the abyss.  Lets just say they usually have hay bails at the bottom before the hard right.  From there you can open it up though and enjoy 45mph.  HHH and DD are great training rides, but it really helps to know the course.

The hills during HHH are harder than the hills you hit on the IM course.  If you don't like hills, HHH has mental benefits, as the IM course will be easier than HHH.

If you don't need hill training or the mental edge from conquering HHH, you'd be better served by riding the IM course.  Start in Verona ( Fireman's Park ) and you can ride one or two loops, or even 3 if you feel up to it.  Knowledge of the course can help you spend effort more wisely on race day.

Me, I plan to do the 200k route at HHH, and get up for a couple weekends of riding the course.  But that's just me.

I'm planning on doing 200K at HHH just to get me motivated for early season riding and getting off to a good start.  Will also come down to Verona to hit the loop on at least 2 occasions and hopefully 3.

X2 on what Coredump said.  I will add, that doing the course is more important, but if you have the means do Both!  I am in for the 200K, as well.  Of course, that is assuming I get in.

Jszat - Signup is on thursday evening.  Usually open for only two to three hours.
