St. Paddy's Day 5K - Run

View Member's Race Log

Mississippi Track Club

Overcast
Total Time = 31m 44s
Overall Rank = 203/239
Age Group = 25 - 30
Age Group Rank = 22/23
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race pretty early as I didn't have a clue what to expect. Debated on whether or not to to eat the gel that I brought but decided against it since I had only eaten one before and didn't want to screw anything up. Drank about 20 oz of water
Event warmup:

Begining about 15 min before start time i started walking around, jogged a bit and stretched out.
Run
  • 31m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the whole freakin way! (except for the 10 yards that i walked while i drank the water they gave me but i'm not counting that.:) ) Part of me wishes that they had marked off the miles so I could have gotten my splits but at the same time I think it helped me make it all the way not knowing how far I had gone and not looking at my watch.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really..
Post race
Warm down:

just walked a little and ate two bananas and had a couple of small cups of gatorade or whatever it was they gave us. Then did some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The simple fact that overall I am still quite out of shape :) I wasn't really concerned with my performance though. Just wanted to have fun and run as much of the course as I could

Event comments:

I was super pleased that I actually ran the whole way. With the time of 31:40 i blew past one of my short term goals (run 20 min) and one of my long term goals (run 30 min).

I'm not sure how many total people ran nor how many in my age group but I would like to find that information. Maybe they will post it to the web.

Wahhooo.. yeah for me :)
