Run
Comments: I made the mistake of not looking at my watch for the first 3 miles. I did this intentionally because when I check my pace in a race I tend to let my type A kick in and speed up. I didn't want to start out too fast, just wanted to use this race as I training run. Well it turns out I had subconsciously latched onto some young jack rabbit. When the race adrenalin faded I realized my HR was red-lined. When I checked my watch I realized why; the jack rabbit and I clocked a 17:47 at mile 3. I knew I wouldn't be able to maintain anything close to that for much longer so I backed off. The rest of the race went ok, the water stops were pretty well placed and the bands were enthusiastic. I did get a little surprise when they threw that hill at me around mile 5. They changed the course since the last time I ran it 15 years ago. What would you do differently?: Not start out so fast and familarize myself with the course route better. Post race
Warm down: Stretched my legs and back while I waited for my girlfriend to finish. Last updated: 2009-01-05 12:00 AM

Breaking a couple of speed limits to get to the last shuttle bus for the race start. (Note to self: read the race schedule twice before the morning of the next race).
Since we were late getting to the last shuttle bus, my pre-race routine consisted of running from were the bus dropped us off to the start while trying to find porta pottie.
