Swim
Comments: So we were waiting in the tent for the race to start and the guy I was racing, who started in front of me, had warmed up on the bike! I was jealous and probably foolish for not following suit. Regardless, my "warm-up" was standing in front of a huge space heater, which definitely helped keep me warm, albeit not my muscles! The swim felt like junk from the very start and I just watched Erich (my competition; UBC varsity swimmer) pull away from me every 50. Arghhhh not impressed. Anyways, my time turned out to be 8:45 at the 700m mark, which is not great at all, then I had a 1:15 run to transition + switching the timing chip off. Basically, it was frustrating! What would you do differently?: Definitely warm up before the race somehow next time, and train more! Transition 1
Bike
Comments: My fellow Tri-club member Sherwood did the bike! Solid time for him considering he is a Sprint cyclist, DEFINITELY not a time trialist Transition 2
Comments: Arghhhh. This did not go so well. Sherwood ran over the timing mat and tried to give me the timing chip, but our hands were SO cold that we couldnt take it off his ankle, or put it on mine. Basically it took us 40 or so seconds to FINALLY get it, and I was off! What would you do differently?: Buy new hands that have better circulation! Run
Comments: Well, so it started out fairly horribly with the Chip kaffuffle and all. But things were much better after that. I pretty much bolted out of the transition area, trying to find my rhythm quickly, since i wasn't even aware I would be running until about 5 min. before, and hadn't mentally prepared. Our runner had to pull out since he would have missed his Olympic tri start in the Indoor pool, and the Indoor pool was running on time while the outdoor pool was running 15 min. behind. Regardless, the run felt great and I passed a bajillion people and never got passed. I felt strong all the way to the end, and my watch clocked me at a 16:05. The time descrepancy was due to the chip problems for sure. What would you do differently?: No idea! Post race
Warm down: Walked around until about 3:00 watching people finish! It was a great day! What limited your ability to perform faster: Training Lack of preparedness No warm-up! Last updated: 2009-03-09 12:00 AM

Checked in at the pool with my team members, got my chip, got my suit on and was roaring to go!
None! I wish there was though, I'm not a big fan of shoes-off efforts!
