Run
Comments: With such a late start (my fault, so I can't complain), I had to spend the first two miles dodging walkers, must have passed 5,000 people the first mile, so I was surprised to see those first two splits come in at 8:41 and 8:52. Settled in but missed the mile marker at 3, but ran a slightly slower pace (18:22) for 3 & 4. Miles 5 and 6, I'm just hanging on with a 9:25 and a 9:26, and a 1:38 for the final 0.2. What would you do differently?: Do a better job of timing that last porta potty visit, which would have placed me more appropriately in the pack at the start. Post race
Warm down: Wait for Dylan to walk to the stadium, drank three bottles of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of quality training(speedwork), extra weight I'm (still) carrying, and the humidity. Event comments: As has been the case the past few years, this race is too crowded, too late in the year, too warm and humid to allow the best performance. Still it is a good event, a great celebration of running and fitness, nearly 20,000 participants and a hell of a party afterwards.Everyone within 500 miles of New Orleans should make this an annual event. Usual routine, woke up at 5am, ate a Clif Bar, watched the news while drinking two cups of coffee, showered shaved, packed the boys up and headed for the city. fifteen miuntes later, Angel dropped us off next to St. Louis Cathedral, a short walk to our corral.
Light jogging, several visits to the porta potti. Dyalan and I got caught in line when the race started, no big deal as we are self-timing the race. Got to the start line ten minutes after the "official" start, which means many walkers got there ahead of me.
