Sunny
Total Time = 1h 03m 17s
Overall Rank = 22/151
Age Group = M 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6, toast with pb and honey, some coffee and packed my stuff.
Event warmup:

None, pool swim and you had to line up prior to the start so it seemed pointless.
Swim
  • 5h 27m
  • 328 yards
  • 1h 39m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Horrible swim. The lanes were very narrow, I caught up to the guy in front of me after 100 yards, I think he had someone in front of him too, but I could not pass. I breast stroked a 25 just looking for an opening.
Very frustrating swim!!
What would you do differently?:

Not do pool swims, I'd rather take my chances with sharks or jellyfish:)
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Uneventfull, long run to T1, rough pavement.
What would you do differently?:

Forget putting on shoes at the end of the pool and just tough it out!
Bike
  • 33m 44s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 20.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Loved the bike course, lots of turns, great scenery, just fun overall.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I pushed it as hard as I could.Maybe I would not have ridden the day before, but this was just a race for fun.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Nothing special
Run
  • 22m 10s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Loved this run course, along the lake, the azalea's out, flat. You could keep track of where people were as it was an out and back. This helped me push it because I saw a couple of people as I was headed back and knew that I had to keep up the pace if I had any chance of beating them.
What would you do differently?:

I would have loved to get under 22:00, I had the same run split at Azalea. I need to watch my run splits better. Started to get some tight calves at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, then went for an easy two mile run to try and get my legs loose.
Awesome catered breakfast, who knew that pancakes and Budweiser went together so well:)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crappy swim.

Event comments:

Love this race, why it is not as popular as Azalea Fest is beyond me. I think the course is better, much more scenic and safer.
The only downside is the pool, it would seem much better to have people use their 300 time instead of 100. There were people starting in the top 10 that took about 10 minutes to finish, it was ridiculous. It's rude and really takes away from other peoples race.
I managed to place 3rd overall in the Master's category, never done that before!

I agree with you on the swim I could have finished a minute faster and reached my goald for the thats race easlity of it was not batteling people throught the pool. I am a newbie at tri`s and I already had the lane sharing pool swims. Now  the Map race two weeks ago was much better just one lane up and under to the next lane. Good job I hope I can reach fast times like u have(not the run) one day

Looks like a great race. Congratulations on the podium finish! Sorry the swim was rough. With so many newbies I'm sure some put their best 100 yard time down instead of dividing out their 300 time. Still, 5 hours?! I think you have a typo in the swim time.

Hopefully I'll try this race some time.
