fsr402 - 2009-04-07 12:58 PM I'll be putting in more time on the bike then the plan says to. Also I'll be training a lot of my long ride/runs in a VERY hilly area and my HIM is a flat course.

Be careful with this.  If your HIM is flat, you should plan at least one or two long rides where you're parked in an aero position most of the time, rather than hilly rides where you're continuously shifting from aero to climbing positions.

I used it to train for my first HIM and it worked really well for me.

There are a couple of things to be clear about with it though. It is for "Beginners" but that doesn't mean "people with little to no experience in swimming, cycling and running".  It means people new to racing this distance. As the Plan Details state, it's assumed that you are an experienced triathlete and have ideally done a few Olympic distance races in the past year.  It's also assumed that you'll customize the plan somewhat to fit your stengths and weaknesses.

yep...

Every so often, you run into something like that...

There was a run interval workout that I needed to run a half dozen half mile intervals at a SUB 6min/mile pace to get it done in the time it suggested...  No way...

I am using the same plan and this is my strategy... and for that specific workout, I opted for the alternate 1x1000...

I never seen the 1000 option

fsr402 - 2009-04-07 9:09 AM It called for a 40 minute swim at a RPE#4 here is what they want you to do in 40 minutes. wu: 200swim, 200kick, 200pull, 200swim main: 1 x 1500, RPE 4 (alternate 1 x 1000) cd: 4 x 50, each slower than last

The funny thing is when I wrote down the workout for that day I never seen that. lol

That's because, I believe, that as a bronze member, you don't get the detail.  If you go up a level of membership, that plan has more detail as to what to do vs just time and/or distance.

Well, right now (thanks to the 40 pounds I gained last year) I don't ride aero, my gut is in the way. If things go right that wont be a problem by then.

Nope I get it. It's just that when I was in my training log and I put the mouse over that day's workout the 1000 yard option did not show. But if I go to the calender for the plan it does.

KathyG - 2009-04-07 9:50 AM My friends who are using the BT HIM plans for their first most have commented to me the beginner plan the long bikes and runs at their pace are short of the actual distance of a HIM if you are a slower person and the intermediate plan has a lot of long swims..first week 3000 yds and maxs at 4600 yards.

It's a generic plan so feel free to adjust it to fit you.  Many of my friends are doing the bikes/runs from the intermediate plan but using swims from beginner plan.
And SOME of Kathy's friends are going to blow off the swimming altogether!!!!
