I dont swim with a thermometer so I'm not sure what the temp was but I swam in Walden on Saturday and it was awesome! Swam across and back, was in the water ~35-40 min and was very comfortable.  The guy that started a little after me was in for a little less time and he said he got pretty bad brain freeze but i was totally fine.  Wayy more comfortable then the HOP 2 weekends ago and I only did half the time/distance in there.  Hopefully all this crappy weather doesn't negate all of the positives the warm sunny days made!

Do you guys know if there exists or if anyone here would be interested in a regular Saturday morning OWS in Walden this summer?

I swim at the UMass Lowell pool and with summer break just around the corner the pool hours become greatly reduced (no mornings or weekends), so I'm looking to hopefully OWS once a week, and am looking for a good group of people to train with.  I've never been, so I would rather go with a group that knows what they are doing rather than wing it by myself.

Anyone interested?

We don't go every Saturday morning, but on a regular basis my team has a group swim (sometimes combined with a bike and/or run) at Walden Pond.  In fact, we will be there this Saturday at 7am.  All the details on this and future workouts can be found on our team calendar.

Ditto on the sans wetsuit comment! I'm down as soon as the water warms up a touch more. Looking forward to it too, Walden is just such a nice place to swim.

running4beer - 2009-05-01 10:58 AM If you want bath water, go to Mystic Lake.  I didn't have a thermometer, but could have swam without a wetsuit on Wednesday night!
Really???? That is GREAT news!!! That's my OWS location - I've been putting off going assuming it would be too cold. Time to get in there!

I live really close to Mystic Lake but have never swum in it.  Would be much more convenient than Walden.  How is it?  What kind of "route" do you take and how long of a swim is it?

From Memorial Beach (which used to be called Sandy Beach - both come up on Google Maps, I think) at Upper Mystic there are buoys up that help mark distance in the lake.  I didn't see this until after my last swim, but here are some maps from the Wheelworks MS site:

"Swim Route:  Short 0.25 mi (First buoy only ), Med 0.5 mi (MIT buoy swim ) or 0.6 mi (Ken's buoy-to-point ), Long 0.72 (First buoy to first L pin ), Super 1.0 mi (First buoy to L and S pins) all in Upper Mystic Lake"

As of next weekend I'll be heading up to Walden to do a swim (out and back) and then bike/run every Saturday AM. Time TBD but anyeone who wants to jump in and join is more than welcome. if we have a good turn uout of BTers we could do some OWS skills talk, some practice and some riding skills or transition practice. Plus the more Bters the better for riding afterwards as we can break down in groups based on speed/distance.

let me know if anyone wants to play

I'm busy the next two weekends, but starting May 30th I would like to get down there just about every saturday.
I would probably be up for some riding afterwards too.

I'll be in touch after memorial day to find out where and when people would like to meet.

hmmm, i dunno- We swam a mile in Walden on Friday and maybe the 6" on the surface was 68 near the shore, but out there in the middle about 12" below surface and I was glad to be gliding through in my wetsuit!  I think it was 2nd week in june last year before I went au natural...

We're doing Webster monday- will post the temp if we remember to take it!

This seems to have fallen by the wayside a little lately.

Who here is up for a swim at Walden this saturday?  I've never been and am looking for a good group to try it out with.

Is it just me?  Every time I check that twitter page for the temp of Walden I get a message saying, "This person has protected their updates."

Anyhow...  I got out for a little ride today and stopped by Walden during the ride.  The lifeguard told me the water temp is 71.

Next time I'm bringing my suit.

Depends what time.  Marathon Physical Therapy in Newton is having a triathlon injury prevention lecture at 8am that I'm planning on going to, so unless the swim is later in the day, I doubt I'll be able to make it out this time.

I swear one of these weekends, I'll actually for a swim @ Walden!
