Pre-race routine:

First - I will update the stas once the info is avaiable on line.
Pre-race: Figure out what to wear on one of the first warm days this spring. It was hard to leave the tights behind - I was pretty sure it would be COLD along the river.
Breakfast of cream of wheat, grapeftuit juice. Just before the race, gatorade and a hammer electrolyte capsule. Sipped some (not enough) water.

Event warmup:

Warm up jog to and from the car as I decided what to leave behind.
Run
  • 1h 55m 12s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Hamstring cramp around mile 9. Had to stop and stretch. After that point I tried to run while holding right leg more or less straight. Actually felt like a one legged running drill! Ran a pretty steady pace, but should've had more to drink at the start.
Quads were surprisingly sore at the finish line. Two weeks off with a cold obviously took a toll on strenth and speed!
What would you do differently?:

More pre-race hydration. Use more gels? Need to think about gels.
Will have to carry fluids on races of this length in the future. Should've had more water during the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of drinks and stretching. Didn't eat much.

Had a really nice time hanging out with my cousin and with Cathy (COgirl) and our families. Our kids had a good time :)
See COgirl's race report for a photo!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't have a history of EVER having cramps. They suck. Need to get stronger and stretch more and hydrate better.

Event comments:

Good aid stations. Good course. Excellent pos-race food!

Kept HR in contol for 9 miles and held a nice 8:30 pace.
Course: From downtown Littleton to the South Platte River trail. Followed the trail along the river to downtown Denver. Gentle slight hills from the river level up to overpass bridges. One surprise hill near the end that was pretty nasty.

Great race, Brett - especially after being so sick. Considering I couldn't run a 8:47 minute pace 1/2 mary on even my HEALTHIEST of days, I think you did awesome! Good job!

Hey that's a pretty damn good pace considering!  Nice job.  Are you starting to get the Ironman Jitters?!   HEHEE.  Wish I could have been there.  Bummer on the cramps.  Hydration days before will help that not just on race day.
