Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45
Ate grits, bagel and PB and OJ
Left the state park at 5:15 and got to the transition around around 5:50.
Event warmup:

None - put on wetsuit and jumped around a little.
Swim
  • 50m 36s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goggles fogged up and I couldn't see anything. Fortunately my wife was in the same wave and she helped me find the bouys. We floundered around getting to the first bouy, then made it to the second. Finally about 1/2 way in, I put my goggles on top of my head and swam with my head out of the water till I could see the two big yellow markers at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

1. Get perscription goggles
2. Make sure to have some anti-fog
Transition 1
  • 09m 20s
Comments:

Long transition - I took my timing chip off of my ankle to get my wetsuit off and of course left it in the transition area. I realized it about 2 miles out on the bike. I don't know yet, but may DNF this race because of that mistake.

What would you do differently?:

More organized!!
Bike
  • 3h 05m 9s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Very satisfied with my bike. I thought it would take me 3 1/2 hours, but I cut 25 minutes from that.
What would you do differently?:

Not forget my timing chip!!
Transition 2
  • 07m 18s
Comments:

Slow transition. I had a lot to do: change socks, shoes, band-aids and MP3 player, etc...
What would you do differently?:

Try to be quicker
Run
  • 1h 54m 49s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I was hoping for a better run - I have been focusing on running for longer than either swimming or biking. So, I looked forward to the run in this race. However, after about 1/2 mile, my left quad cramped up - and I have never felt anything like it. I was force to walk/jog slowly for the first 2-3 miles. I was very disappointed.

It finally shook out and was able to get my pace up. Then after about mile 11, I began to get really tired and once again was reduced to walk/run.

Finished the last 1/2 mile strong.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, grabbed a powerbar, trailmix and a Diet Mountain Dew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Foggy goggles
Cramp in quad.

Event comments:

This race did have some problems - however none of them were show-stoppers and I may plan on doing this event again next year if they have it.

Good job--congratulations! Way to tough it out despite some issues. Hope the quad is better!
