Total Time = 2h 41m 16s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

Wake up, eat, then wait, wait, wait, for the 10 o'clock start
Event warmup:

Put on on wetsuit trying to keep my heart rate down in zone 2
Go for a swim to accimitize to the water and scope out the swim exit. Learned that you have to stay well left of the blow out yellow dacing guy that marks the exit or you'll be on the wrong side of the dock.
Swim
  • 28m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

My wave was clydesdales and 50+, so after the first 100 or so got out in front of most (only about 10 from my wave finished ahead of me). Spent some time bumping into one guy on the first leg. Why can't people swim straight. Of coarse it wasn't long till I realized that the idiot whoo was vering off course was me, the other guy was "forcing" back in line. But otherwise my navigation was better than normal.

After the first leg found a descent groove and swam smooth and easy for the rest of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Wetsuit always tough to get off around heels. Have to sit and work it off. Not my worst T1 time but if I want to be competative I must work to shave at least a minute off this.

Comments:

The race plan "Break 20 and to hell with the run"

Hammered the first third of loop 1 (Z5b) passing lots. Settled in to mid Z4 for the rest of the loop, Stayed aero, Think fast, Find green target, pass, say hi, find next green target.

Settled into a slightly easier pace for the second loop.

Broke my goal of 20, now disapointed that I didn't break 21, well that's how they trick you to keep coming back for more.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

What would you do differently?:

Putting the right shoe on my left foot really slows down a transition.

Put my shoes on my mat in the wrong order

Dropped my wetsuit on top of my running shoes so they were damp, and did not slide on easily.

The race plan "Break 20 and to hell with the run"

My legs had no real spring left, even though I didn't feel I burned them out to badly on the run.

Really thought I could do almost a minute per mile faster than this. Perhaps my lingering illness did affect me somewhat, maybe I'm just not as fast as I think I am, nah that's not it.
What would you do differently?:

If you thought I'd say "Go easier on the Bike" you just don't know me at all.
Post race
Warm down:

Stand in the cold lake.

Food, drink, repeat.

Solid race, Ray! Though I don't think it's very sportsmanlike to hunt down your teammates

Nothing like wandering around with cold beer in a plastic cup watching triathlon

You had enough of those green targets; that's for sure.  You guys in a cult or something?  Great race!
