Event warmup:

Chat with Erin (BT's Fielding) and Shizu.
Swim
  • 02m 53s
  • 100 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

As last year, it was a mass pool start. I couldn't get in the pool before the start but I doubt the couple seconds really matter. The first length I barely put in a stroke, the current of the mass of swimmers was so strong I just floated. It was a bit of a mad house, but I expected it this year.
What would you do differently?:

Hope the RD splits the 13-39yo female wave into smaller groups. It is the largest wave in the race.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The two transition areas at this tri are a little annoying, I had to bag my goggles and swim cap to have any hope of post race recovery. Between that and wanting to don my Garmin, I was slower than my normal... though have no idea what that split would be. otherwise, my socks were rolled, gear set, it was smooth to get mounted, just had the extra steps to stow gear.
Bike
  • 09m 55s
  • 2.7 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Erin (Fielding) zipped by me shortly into the bike. one other biker passed me close to T2 but otherwise I held my own on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

who's that dork leaving T2 with her bike helmet still on? Oh, that's me. I dropped it curbside and kept running.
Run
  • 26m 55s
  • 2.25 miles
  • 11m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Little slower than I might have liked, but with the railroad overpass to run up/down twice, shrug, not so bad! Was nice to have Erin and Shizu on the course too to cheer them as they blew on by (and get some cheers). I definitely lost some positions on the run as stronger runners passed me, but I felt good and ran my race. I was glad I had my garmin on so I could moderate my pace. I started the run too fast, but quickly dropped my pace once I saw the digital feedback confirmed my breathlessness was "valid" as I was running way too fast for a maintainable pace. Hurrah for technology.
Post race
Warm down:

Sit and breath briefly, chat with Erin and Shizu. Gather goodies.

Event comments:

The race is a quickie - for the venue and budget, it is well run. The shirts are ugly this year

Great job, Cynthia! You were super speedy on the bike and it's so cool you ran the whole run. The swim, well, heh. You didn't drown! (Actually, your floating technique sounds good -- I might have to try that next year.)

It was nice seeing you at another race -- we definitely have to do this more often.
