Extreme Veteran 1106 , Connecticut | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (May 09) No Excuses Hi all, I caught a really bad cold and it sent me on a tailspin. I was too sick to workout and just craved junk food. 9 days later I feel like . Put on a few lbs. - 168 and am mad that, once again, time has passed and I am no closer to my goal weight. Tomorrow is a gym day! I find that when I train hard, I want to eat well. Terry, I hope that you got the name of the woman who hit you! Seems like she should have some consequences. MM |

As in slow, balanced or fast oxidizer? I took a multiple choice quiz and I'm quite confused by my results. Answers A: 21; Answers B:22; Answers C: 5 Results section says: - if number of answers A is 5 or more higher than number of B and C answers you're slow oxidizer - if number of answers B is 5 or more higher than number of B and C answers, or if neither As, Bs, nor Cs are 5 or more higer than the other two, you're balanced oxidizer - if number of answers C is 5 or more higer than number of A and B answers , you're fast oxidizer. I'm totally lost with it- anybody? Also going to look at a house tonight- not to buy just to rent. I've been supressing this need of moving for a long time and moving to a different place in the same city is the least I can do to "satisfy that need". Normally I'd just pack my suitcase and go (different city or country) but with my scholarship I can't for another 3 years (or until I finish my PhD). A friend of mine once said that I'm simply like that- every so often I need to pack and just go. If I'm allowed to do that I'll be back sooner or later. On the other hand, if I'm not allowed (by whatever circumstances) I'm getting very unhappy and depressed as a result. I laughed at him first, trying to analyse me, but he's right, soooooooo right. That was a huge digression. Here is 1 way without As, Bs or Cs: If you want to get slightly more technical, you can also use the Mifflin-St Jeor formula , developed in 1990, which goes something like this:
Mine comes out to about 1548. Mine came out to 1546....but I'm not sure what this number means. Cead...I feel you on the need to pack up and leave. I'm completing my BA now (2nd time around at college) and am ready to get packing. I often find a little road trip helps when I start to feel cramped. Edited by misfitc 2009-05-22 9:31 PM |

Expert 711 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (May 09) No Excuses The BMR equation calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate, or the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight. It does not take exercise into the equation. My number is 1338, but I'm breastfeeding so I get spotted an extra 500 calories per day. At 1838 calories per day, I would maintain my current weight if I didn't exercise at all. If I ate 1838 calories and exercised, I would lose weight, or if I didn't exercise but ate fewer calories, I would lose weight. It just provides a rough guideline. I don't think it has anything to do with your level of oxidation, because what you eat will affect that as well as genetics. |

Expert 711 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (May 09) No Excuses Cead, I would interpret your results to say that you are a balanced oxidizer. Your A and B answers were both the same, so neither could be 5 or more than both A/B AND C. |

Beat my 1/2 Mary time from 2 weeks ago by 1 min....WOOHoo. Didn't feel like running at all from my little obstacle course run on Sat., but I just kept going until I did it. Now if I could lose weight...I keep getting fatter and fatter the farther I run. |

Expert 711 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (May 09) No Excuses We should start planning right now for a TSLD Half (Labour Day) - I bet we'd get more than two for that! Any thoughts on when to eat/not to eat? I just had a big protein shake (10:30pm) and I'm off to bed. I always remember hearing that it's better not to eat for a few hours before going to sleep, but I don't remember why that was again? I'm crossing my fingers that it will stick until Wednesday (and forever after, of course) but I hit my May goal weight when I weighed in this morning! That was pretty cool. |

Protein is a good thing if you are eating before bed. Carbs are supposedly bad because your body can't use them while you are sleeping, but it can use protein to rebuild muscle. When is Labor day? I forget about holidays until they are upon me. |

Extreme Veteran 1106 , Connecticut | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (May 09) No Excuses Well, I was concerned that I wouldn't maintain the vigilance needed to loss weight & I was right. I was great for three weeks and then let a bad head cold sidetrack me for one week (no workouts/bad food) and then momentum kept me down for another week. Had a good workout today - didn't want to, but after driving to the gym I did it. Now I feel great. Just hope that the periods of vigilance on diet and training get longer and the backsliding gets shorter. It does bum me out that a few weeks of weightloss can be undone soooo fast! The good feelings from training give me a lot of strength to maintain a healthy diet. So here I go again... |

I have 3 months to prepare, so sign me up I am down for the 5K for sure, but not sure about the TSLD Half Marathon. That is my grandson's birthday weekend and I am not sure I will have 2-1/2 hours free to be running around. I have my priorities and my grandson is pretty much at the top of the stack. Not pretty much. He is absolutely at the top of the heap. But I have a HIM the second weekend in October, so it would be good to do a half mary about that time. Hmmm. We will have to think about this to make it work. What a great idea! |
