Pre-race routine:

Got up at about 5:30. I just kind of woke up on my own. Showered, ate a bagel and some cereal, and drank a glass of water.
Event warmup:

I parked about a mile away and ran at least 1 or 2 miles for a warm up. My legs were feeling fresh after my taper.

Comments:

I run this race every year, but I haven't trained for it since I was about 12 years old. So my fastest time ever was 58:XX. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was hoping to go 47:XX. I ended up doing much better. I started out in the front of the second seed pack and got passed quite a bit at the beginning. I had decided before the race that I wasn't going to try and go with anyone. I just wanted to run my own race. The first two miles are fast, with all the adrenaline and they are slightly down hill. After that you get into some hills and my pace slowed a little. I just tried to stay as close to 6 min miles as I could. At mile 4 I was at 24 min. This was right were I wanted to be, but for some reason my brain was able to perform any sort of simple math at this point and I had no idea what my finishing time would be. After the mile four mark you get a little down hill before DOOMSDAY hill. It wasn't as tough this year as it had been in years past and I actually found myself passing 5 or six people on it. When I got to the top my strategy was go with what I have left for the last 2.5 miles. I ended up getting in sort of a race with guy for the last 2 miles. He dropped back with about 1/2 a mile left but I think he really helped push me through those 2 miles. Felt strong finishing, but I don't know if I could have gone any faster. A lot of my training has been geared toward longer distance stuff so I don't have an abundant amount of speed in my legs. All in all it was a great race.
What would you do differently?:

Wear taller socks. They gave me a blister on my achilles tendon.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a massage. Ate some pizza and chatted with people I knew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Thats as fast as I get.

You gotta love Bloomsday!
