Subject: Bike computer placement?
My great kids got me a bike computer thingy for Mother's Day.  My husband is putting it on my bike but we can't find a good place for it to go since the handlebars where it seems it would go best are occupied by my aerobars.  Where should we put this thing??

TIA

2 options - on the stem of the handlebar sometimes works; but it is harder to read when in the aero position.  Or you can get a short stem that attaches to the aerobars and is made to hold the cyclometer.  Kind of like this.

I mounted mine on the stem.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, that page won't load for me but I will keep trying.
I plan to get an aero bottle because I drop my water bottle every time I try to use it.  Will this bar dork up my aero bottle space?

Could I put it sideways on the bike frame?  That doesn't seem very convenient but there is no room on the stem because of reflector and handle bars and stuff.  Maybe I'll take a picture so you can see what I'm talking about.

The computer itself is a cheap Bell bike computer they got at a sporting goods store.  It looks like this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FCL63C

Here are some pics of my bike.  It came with small black tie wraps so my husband has it on the frame right now as you can see but it's going to be really hard for me to see that when I am on the bike.

OK, see that area between where the handlebars connect and the stem drops into the bike frame?  Thats where I put my computer.  Find a piece of neoprene rubber, put that on the stem, lay your computer on top of that and zip tie it down.

I can take a picture of my setup if you need it.

Good Luck

My bike store had a mount that attaches to my aerobars.  I put the computer mount on this piece of plastic so that the computer is between my aerobars.  It works out really well.

My only advice is make sure it's in an easy to read place, not worth glancing down for a moment and taking a hit while you try to process a sideways copmuter screen

Like gearboy said...one of these will work (about $10)

I have a small piece of black PVC's and some zip ties to make a bridge between my aerobars. It works great and is very sturdy. My aerobars are moved back so I have room to put them behind the handlebars, would work fine in either place. This works fine for and is not in the way of my aerodrink.

That spot would make perfect sense.... except.... my computer locks into a 'platform' for lack of better word that has a half pipe design on the underside so if I put my computer there it will always be sideways.

The base of most cyclometers has that halfpipe shape to fit on the handlebar more neatly.  Some of them have a rubber base that they sit on, that dampens road vibration and also helps keep the mounting platform from scratching up the bars.  Some of them don't (I've got one like that which I put on mrs gearboy's bike, since she doesn't use aerobars).  Check with the LBS if you can mount yours either way, so it can ride on the stem.  Or, like I said, get a mounting bracket for the aerobars.  Here's a picture to give you an idea of it:

As you can see, you put the ring part on the aerobar, and the stem part sticks out just enough to mount the cyclometer.  If it's wireless, just set it and be done.  If it's wired, then run the wires along the aerobars to the mounting doohickey.

I just got an aerobottle, so I had to remount the computer. I mounted it right on my aerobars in front of the aerobottle. I found it's actually easier to read since it is now about four inches further forward, so it's closer to my line of sight.
