Overall Rank = 45/105

Age Group Rank = 5/11
Pre-race routine:

Got more or less organized the night before.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 26m 43s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm surprised, but for both the races I've done, the swim has been my best event. I actually got out of the water in ~24:35, which would be my fastest swim by far. Once out of the water, we had to go up a hill (65 steps) and then go a fair way to the transition area.
I was not prepared for the cold water and the congestion at the start. I took a few mouthful's of water. With the TI drills I have been doing, I was better at staying on course.
What would you do differently?:

Try and not go out so fast. I got winded early and didn't really get into a good pace until the second half of the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

This transition sucked. I wasn't well prepared and lost at least a full minute from what I should have done.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the night before and get my area better setup.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 39s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I had just gotten new 170mm crank arms to replace the 175's and had only one easy 30 minute ride. The crank was great, relieving the majority of the knee pain I had been having, but my seat was too low and I didn't feel like I could take advantage of the short crank. I did like spinning at a higher cadence with the shorter cranks. For the second half of the race, I was pretty lame on the hills, but I did pass a few people. I don't think any road bikes passed me the entire race - all tri bikes. Maybe I'll get one next year.
What would you do differently?:

I just need more training. I was really hampered the last few months with my new bike and too long crank arms. My knees were in constant pain. I rode the day ofter the race and still had no knee pain. I'd like to average 20 mph one of these days. i was disappointed I dropped just below 19 MPH.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I was OK with this transition.
Run
  • 52m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were pretty dead, but I had plenty of air. I didn't push too much as I didn't much feel like it and there was nobody close to me except near the finish. The hills were killers. They were steep and sometimes muddy.
What would you do differently?:

I need more speed work and get my knees working better. Overall I wouldn't change much.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. I took a 2 hour nap when I got home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee problems for the last couple of months has hurt my training. I need to loose 10 pounds as well.

Event comments:

I'll probably come back next year.

Great job. Fantastic swim performance...a new tri-bike might make a big difference, but spending $ on a real, proper fitting will be worth every penny. Very well done race. Congratulations!

Great race!  That was a really nice swim.

I'm with you on the tri bike - I have some extra money burning a hole in my pocket and can't wait to be one of the cool kids on a bike that looks fast!
