Subject: Changing brake pads
I've been switching my brake pads for my training wheels and race wheels. I've stripped the little screw on both sides on front brakes that holds the pads in.

Is it better to swap the brake pads in the holders as they have a different big more substantial screw compared to tiny screw that keeps brake pads in?

Not sure what is better but I always change the whole thing and have never had a problem.

I think you should learn to ride the bike on just the 2 wheels, and give up the training wheels.

Thankfully I don't show up at races with the training wheels

Did you ruin the screw or the holder? I always just replace the pad. I know cantilever and MTB pads come w/ the screw in the package. I don't remember if road pads do?

If you're changing wheels and pads simultaneously, I'd do the holder and all. That's a 5mm bolt and easier to grab a hold of than the little ones.

BTW: Kool-stop pads are the greatest and are very inexpensive. MUCH better than the Shimano.

Just get the Kool Stop Zipp pads and you can run them on both.  Just make sure to check the pads when you get ready to put on your race wheels to make sure there are no burrs/metal flakes in the pads.  Problem solved ........ next.

This year I'm using the Cool Stop instead of yellow Swiss Stop I used last year when I didn't switch back and forth. After talking with folks on my bike race team most folks suggested switching. Zipp 404s cost enough swapping brake pads is not big deal. I'm only doing 4 more races this year so it's not a big deal except like today I couldn't get them out as the screw is stripped.

I have been changing little screw but cool stops didn't come with extra screws. S
