Are there any really hairy people out there? How do you deal with it for training/races?

I am hairy enough that if I raced in only shorts, someone would probably ask why I hadn't removed my wetsuit. It's a long process to shave all body hair and usually requires a partner. I have tried things like Nair, unfortuantely, I also have extremely sensitive skin and was left with burns that looked like I had been splashed with acid.

Over the years I have tried waxing, Nads, shaving, Nair, Laser/IPL treatment and I am still as hairy as ever.

Any suggestions?

My dad has the same thing, lots of hair. He just gets clippers and mows it, doesn't worry about shaving it all the way down, just very very short.

First, thanks for posting a question I feel qualified to answer!

To echo TDK, I simply trim but do not shave.

I use this guy: http://www.manalogues.philips.com/?origin=SEA&s_kwcid=TC|9836|man%2...

Every two weeks I trim up - no skin irritation, ingrown hairs, etc.

I am in a very similar position. If I don't trim my chest and stomach, it ends up looking like a rug. The ironic thing is that I seem to be gaining hair everywhere I don't want it (back, shoulders etc), and losing it from the one place I actually want it to grow (my head).

I have used Nair on occasion, but it is a bit messy to use, and you have to use A LOT if your hair is thick.

The easiest way is to use hair clippers and just trim it short. Once every three to four weeks tends to be enough.

Gosh, I'm a lady and that's looking pretty sweet.

Although, if you have a lot of area to cover this this guy does... that tiny little razor head won't cover too much area... so it might take a long time.

I have a Bodygroom and it works great.  The initial time you trim it takes a while.  After that, to trim up everything, takes about 15-20 mins.  Not too bad, once a week or so.

I bought the 1st gen bodygroom an dthe battery just died on me. Need to go get a new one, although I bought a new panasonic electric shaver and it kicks major butt. I use it on my face also.  never liked electric shavers, but this one is awesome!

Use it from my nose to my toes. Works great and you can either just do the quick trim or the nice smooth finish.

Tyler,

naturally I am extremely hairy. I would reccommend shaving everything, but first run the clippers first on place where you can get hair everythere and dispose off without clogging any drains up. Then go back with the razor.

Laser hair removal is totally worth it.

I have to strongly disagree here. I paid for an entire years worth of laser treatments. Saw a reduction for about the 6 months after I finished and then it was back to full coverage like the laser never happened. What a waste of money.

Could this possibly be the first shaving thread of the season?

Will shaving my legs make me faster?

I completely shaved down (except head & Pubs) for a 5K OWS last year (no wetsuit allowed). I was so much cooler in my tris that I am going to do it again starting with my first HIM in 2 weeks. I'll keep it shaved all summer. It is like taking a blanket off for me.

PS Cold water does not bother me in a wetsuit

Question to all of the "shavers" out there....

How about when it grows back? Does it itch? Get irritated? Ingrown hairs?

Sincerely yours....
