Blah.  'Wings got outplayed.  They had several opportunities to score, but they got outplayed.

I'll be seeing that Cleary breakaway in my nightmares.

Osgood was a phenom.

I don't know that the 'ole ticker can make it through a Game 7, especially if it's a nail bitter like that!

That's all, I'm swearing off all things hockey until Friday evening at 8.

What's up with two days between games?

Great game last night - I predicted Pitt in 7, so at least I got the number of games right. Should be a fun one to watch.

If the Wings D plays better I think we'll be in good shape for game 7. And the extra rest between games 5-6-7 can only help.

Yeah, only help the older wings...conspiracy I say! Not really, I'm sure Betman wants Sid (the face of the NHL) and Malkin to win.

The rest will help the guys that are nursing injuries too and I'm sure there are more hurt than we know about.

It was good to see Drapes get a goal last night.  Friday is going to be NUTS!  It's the first championship series Game 7 in Detroit since 1955.

I'll be at Cheli's downtown....maybe I'll see some of you there?

Wait. With all the `blame the refs' and `The Pens are tooooo physical' you're actually posting that? Pot. Kettle.

The Red Wings seem to think this is a Brian Boitano revue with the way they whine and moan about the physicality and their fans are CONSTANTLY saying `It's the ref's fault this went to seven games' and `Pittsburgh has too many thugs' ... it's hockey, ladies. Man up and play and quit with the whining.

Actually, I haven't really seen much of that.  I read quite a few fan blogs, professional blogs, and Detroit area newspapers and most fans of these outlets are pretty good about admitting that the Penguins have won 3 games because they outplayed Detroit, no matter how bad of a taste it leaves in our mouth .

I edited this because I can't actually comment on the fans...I don't live in Detroit.  But, it's not reasonable to think that fans of any team are going to rationally evaluate the job of the refs.  But...I don't think the Red Wings fans in this particular thread have been too hard on the refs...other than some pictures...

I haven't seen much of baby sid this series - it seems like he's grown up a bit as the series has gone along. Then again, maybe that's because the Wings aren't as physical with him as other teams in the East.

Looking forward to a great game tomorrow night!

Those pics are pretty funny though.

OK.  Game 7.  All the marbles.

Pens, pulling the mighty upset in the Motor City?

Or Wings, giving the rust belt a big shot of pride?

Detroit Dan - 2009-06-11 10:53 AM Wait. Pittsburgh doesn't have thugs...it just so happens their physical players are good with the puck too. It's not the Pens fault that the Wings could not convert on their Powerplay...with all the penalties the Pens took, you would think it wouldn't have gone to 7 games. I think the Wings are just getting old and can't even handle a bump on the boards anymore

The thuggishness is completely attributable to cheap shots, both during play and after play, from the pens. I've no issue whatsoever with tough play and hitting hard. Both teams are bringing it, but Malkin and Sid and Orpick all got out of line in the first couple games. To their credit, they have shaped up since game 3.

And on the age thing...the Wings' average age (minus chelios) is 29.9, whereas the pens are 28.1. Not a shocking difference there.  The wings' get the 'old' rap because many of the 'noteable' players are older; Lidstrom 39, Osgood 36, Draper 38, McCarty 37,  Chelios 47, and Kirk Maltby 36.  But Draper, McCarty, Maltby and Chelios don't play, whereas Detroit's 4 best players (non-goalie) were Zetterberg (28), Brad Stuart (29), Darrin Helm (22),  and Datsyuk (30), and leading scorer Abdelkador (22).

Pittsburgh's 3 best players are really young: Sid, Malkin, Fleury. That's the perception difference, but I think age (other than Lidstrom) is a non-factor.  Plus, we'll sign whoever your best player is this offseason anyway.

Wings, 4-2. 1-1 in the first period --> Detroit scores 2 in the 2nd --> Pittsburgh mounts a rally to bring it to 3-2 in the 3rd, but Wings get an empty-netter to ice the victory.

I'm loving the photos, keep them coming.

Flyers in 2010!!! Hey, they just signed Emery (terrible move - when will the Flyers learn).

I'll be in SF tonight watching the game getting ready for Alcatraz.

Dan, I'm smellin' what you're cookin', keep 'em comin'.

And K, you're going to base your cheap shot argument not on what we all saw, but a compilation that Don Cherry directed be put together to reinforce his (and CBC's) anti-euro stance?  Ever since Stevie retired, CBC and their toronto-lovin, tuke-wearin, looney-totin, bacon-eatin, molson-drinkin crew have been all over the Wings.

You'd probably get more balanced coverage from Fox News or Rush Limbaugh. Sid's hot, Wings not.
