Veteran 144 Lewisville | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! I'm sure there are a lot of wings fans out there, but they are my most hated team. I'm a Flyers fan, so I don't like the Pens much either. i'm pulling for Sid and Geno in this series. Pens have been the best team in the league since they made the coaching change. I'll take Pens in 7, but could be sooner if Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out any longer or less than 100%. |

Expert 878 Tallahassee, FL | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! I love the Red Wings with an unhealthy passion. Let's go 'Wings! Hopefully Osgood can keep up this level of play. And hopefully we can get healthy before Saturday! You're right, I've never seen any playoff series, especially the final series, play back to back games. What's up with that? |

Expert 878 Tallahassee, FL | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! I think it could be a great series. I just hope they don't beat the Hossa story line to death. Both teams have some subtle differences from last year that should make it fun to watch. And with Malkin being as hot as he is...man. I think most pundits are going to have Pittsburgh winning the series, especially if the Red Wings stay banged up like they are (Lidstrom has missed the past two games, Datsyuk the past 3, and Ericson last night's game). I never buy into what they say simply because the Cup is on the line. The Penguins are going to want retribution from last year and the Red Wings aren't going to want to see the Cup walk out the door. Anything can happen. My keys to the series: (warning - amateur hockey analysis forthcoming) For the Pens: Malkin and Crosby keep playing like that are playing. They are each on a different level. For the 'Wings: Big play coming from their leaders (Osgood, Datysuk, Lidstrom, Zetterberg). I'm looking at you Dats. He hasn't scored a goal since the Columbus series. His defense has been sound though, and with Crosby and Malkin playing like they are, that may be more important. I just hope he's not seriously injured and can play. I really think this one could go 7 games. I just hope it's not won in OT in the seventh game, I really don't think I'll make it through the game with my sanity intact |

Veteran 144 Lewisville | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! The back to back games will hurt the wings much more, especially with the recent injuries. They basically played 4 d against Chicago last night - that will not contain Crosby and Malkin...Malkin is possessed right now. |

Bill Madlock, Kent Tekulve, John Candelaria, Dave Parker, and Willie Stargell have a better chance than the current pie-rats of winning anything. Come to think of it, they prolly stand a better chance than the Pens. Heh. |

Veteran 254 | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! This is technically the worst or maybe second worst finals for me, these are two of my top 3 most hated teams, the other would be the Flyers... I'm hoping somehow they both manage to lose... :-( That being said, I'd rather watch every second then watch any of the NBA playoffs... :-) -Andy |

Sadly the Wings is all Detroit has in terms of strong Professional teams... the Lions suck, the Tigers suck, the Pistons suck... This is the year for Pittsburgh - Steelers NFL Champs, Pirates are doing OK, and the Pens rock! The energy is unbelievably in favor of the Penguins and you can feel they are hungry for it and will get it this year!!! Reading this thread... the Wings fans are already talking about injuries... so if they lose it's because they're injured whereas they probably aren't hungry enough to win it. The Wings can have our left-overs, we obviously don't need them to win, but Detroit obviously did to get this far And I know this because Detroit has all Pittsburgh's the best players. And I'm going Saturday night. The Tigers have a 4 game lead on their division right now, plus a WS appearance in '06, so they aren't terrible. The Lions? Yeah, ok, they suck. I don't really keep up with the NBA. Regardless, I don't think the other sports teams in the city have an effect on the motivation of the other teams. Maybe the fans get a little more fired up, but you'd think fans in a city like Detroit would have a lot of reasons to want to see this Red Wings team do well. I think both teams are going to come into the series with a lot of positive energy. I mentioned the injuries only because I hope we get healthy before the series starts. I wouldn't blame losing on injuries, I would blame losing on getting beat by a better team. That being said, when two of your best players are injured before a big series, and a second defenseman injured causes your team to only rotate four defensemen (for the most part, two others get very nominal ice time), it's going to be talked about. Just like Gonchar's injury was a topic of discussion when the Pens were in 10th place in the east during the first part of the regular season, and a hot topic when he had the knee-on-knee hit with Ovechkin in the Capitals series. As fans, we don't want to go into any game without our A-game, which means having everyone healthy. |

Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: Wings - Pens! I've enjoyed Detroit sports over the past few years. Aside from the Lions of course. Pistons had a great run, Wings have been hot for years, and the Tigers have shown (and show now) some real promise. I was hoping that Carolina would beat Pitt just so I could go and antagonize the Hurricane fans up in Raleigh. I'd gladly drop a couple hundred on a ticket but I can't justify getting on a plane. |
