Lake Mills Triathlon
Total Time = 1h 20m 33s
Overall Rank = 125/594
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 23/44
Pre-race routine:

PB and slice of bread with coffee in the car. Sippin' a bottle of Heed.
Swim
  • 08m
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

SUCK! I am a big idiot. I had requested an elite start, but didn't have the brains to start on the outside. There I was, front row, middle of the pack, for the start. The whole first leg was a wrestling match. Totally my bad. Redlining to get out of there put me off for most of the swim. Finally got my groove for the last 100 yards or so.
What would you do differently?:

Start on the inside or outside!
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

It was cold and drizzling so I took time to put on some extra stuff--socks, long sleeve shirt, skull cap. Getting the socks and shirt on were a mess! Had a solid fast bike mount so we'll count that as a victory!
What would you do differently?:

Try putting on rolled up arm warmers rather than a shirt.
Bike
  • 45m 17s
  • 15.8 miles
  • 20.93 mile/hr
Comments:

Crappy. Definitely gave it the effort, but the speed didn't show up for me. Guess the bike fitness isn't quite where it was two years ago.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

One oops here, I sat down to try to put my running shoes on. Much easier standing up! Just a mental error there that cost a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

See above.
Run
  • 23m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Very happy with this run. Started out the run with slightly numb lower legs from the cold bike ride. Just held steady the first mile which seemed to take a long time. Mile two flew by, and mile three was a satisfying hard effort. Good stuff.
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, Recoverite, cheer the Donkey world in!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of fitness. Poor choice on swim start. Slow transition due to combination of cold, wet, and mental errors.

Event comments:

In spite of going slower than I'd like, I had a blast. This is a fun little race. Nice lake, decent bike course, great run course (for those of us who like straight and flat!). I think the new bike course is a bit hillier than the old one, and it was .8 miles longer too. No killer hills, but I remember it as being almost pancake flat and it now has a couple small rollers that had be in the 23 in back. Never had to get out of the big ring though.

TONS of BT'ers there. Just a blast to see everyone! Sorry I missed some of you!

That's a pretty good speedy time there, Peter-Peter!

The weather wasn't the best for helping it up a little, though.  EEEAAAWWW!!!

Congrats on the race!  Wish you had better luck on the swim.  I had that "redline" feeling in my 1st tri last year - it sucked, so I know how you feel.

Rocked the run, Dood, AND with a bum wheel (shin splints).  I'd be all over that.

Sweet race.  Glad to cheer the crowds on with you for a bit.  Was Laurie there?  I believe I heard that she won Athena?  Glad you talked her into it this year

Yes, this all reads very familiar. Still, impressive time, dood! Hey, if I can somehow beat you one of these races, can I be Elite, too?

Great seeing ya Pete even though I was jealous you were done and I still had 3 miles to go.  I agree, this race is a lot of fun even if the performance isn't quite what it should be.
