Swim
Comments: Good swim, but I was still a little sore from when I lifted on Friday. What would you do differently?: Not lift 2 days before the race... Transition 1
Comments: Threw down the goggles and cap, stepped into the shoes as I was putting on my helmet, tightened the shoes and I was off. Bike
Comments: I played leap frog with a few people for most of the bike. I looked down at my Garmin and at times I was going 22+ mph! I was pretty happy with my ride, but I still want to improve for future races. What would you do differently?: I need to learn how to start with my shoes on the bike! Transition 2
Comments: Had a little trouble getting the bike shoes off, so that ate up some time. I kept losing my balance when I was trying to un-velcro them! Run
Comments: I started the run wheezing really hard and getting some strange looks. Two women pulled ahead of me on the run, but I just couldn't go any faster and still get air in my lungs. My legs could've handled it, though, which is the frustrating part. I still kept a pretty good pace, though. What would you do differently?: Train my lungs to be more tolerant of that speed. Is that possible? Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate some pancakes, waited for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Soreness and wheezing Last updated: 2009-06-08 12:00 AM

Tried to go to bed early at the hotel, but kept getting woken up by some kid yelling outside my door. Woke up early, drank coffee, ate a bagel, and headed out the door for the race.
Hopped into the water to feel how warm it was. When I was stepping in, I somehow cut my big toe on a shell or something and spend the rest of the warmup time walking around and asking people with purses if they had a bandaid. Even the water station didn't have a first aid kit! The cut wasn't so bad that it would keep me from racing, but it was in such an inconvenient location and I wanted to keep it closed so it wouldn't hurt when I biked and ran on it. After a while I just gave up and waited to start the race.
