Overall Rank = 33/
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Wake up, shower, grab a pop-tart, load up the gear, and off to the race.

This race marks the one-year anniversary of my triathlon racing. Last year, I was WAY undertrained in the run, and my finishing time was 1:17:56. Let's see if we can PR...
Event warmup:

Nada. Walking around, talking with friends, admiring Marvarnett's lovely choice of racewear (there should be pics somewhere)...
Swim
  • 03m 21s
  • 200 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Short short short swim, so I just cruised. No point in trying to blow up and save 15 secs here to lose it somewhere else. Kinda crowded and bumpy, but a good controlled swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nuthin'.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

This race has separate T1 and T2 areas, so I pocketed my cap & goggles, and headed for the bike. Wiped off the feet a bit, but it took a few extra seconds to get into my shoes. Wet feet + dry shoe fabric = sticky entry. I got settled in and off we go!
What would you do differently?:

Not be lazy and actually have my tri shoes ready and practiced for a running mount.
Bike
  • 30m 25s
  • 9.2 miles
  • 18.15 mile/hr
Comments:

I ran a good pace for the first half, then got a little dehydrated. A tthe second turn, my computer stopped registering, and my mid-cassette shifting got funky. Oh well, I was feeling blah at that point, so I muscled it in and still managed an 18+ pace. Not great, not awful. As in Carrollton, most everyone who passed me was aero, so I don't feel too bad about it.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate pre-race, and not be lazy by letting my bike get out of tune. Not much else.
Transition 2
  • 03m 36s
Comments:

Racked the bike (read: leaned against tree), shoes off, shoes on. Oh yeah, helmet off too... Grabbed a quick drink of water, and off we go. I wasn't feeling too good at this point, as I was a little dehydrated. Meh, whatcha gonna do? Off we go!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe try elastic laces to save time (if I like them...)
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I was feeling dehydrated on the 2nd half of the bike, and it carried over to the 1st half of the run. I got a drink at T2, and it helped a little. I walked WAY too much during the first mile, so I pushed myself some and made it to the water station. Grabbed a cup, drank half and poured the other half over my head to cool down some. It worked, and I was feeling better. As I see the turnaround, My sprits lift, and I pick up the pace a little. Hit the water station again on the return, feeling MUCH better, keep a good pace going.

I got passed by 5-6 people, and passed one of them, so not awful, considering.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate before the race so I don't feel it on the run. Thankfully, I was able to HTFU and have a strong finish.

Post race
Warm down:

Grab water and a banana, talk to friends, pack up and head out (going to a baseball game later).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The fact that I biked once weekly, swam twice, and ran three times in the 6 WEEKS in between this race and my last (late April) limited my performance. I figure I left 3-4 minutes out there. No big deal.

No real worries, as I decided to race this about 2 weeks before race day to make up for not getting to go to Austin to race CapTex.

Event comments:

This is always a fun, low-key race benefitting a local group. Lots of first-timers, a few heavy-hitters, and a well-run event.

Pics to come, prolly this evening.

EDIT: Oops, I looked up the wrong time from last year. I PR'd by a little over 10:00, not 25:00. Still...

Oops, I looked up the wrong time from last year. I was 1:17:56 instead of 1:32.

Still a ten-minute PR...
