Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00. Good thing my fiance my mom and step dad we all stayed in a cabin across the lake. Perfect morning... Ate breakfast took in the fresh air and reflected on what the day was going to bring to me...

Event warmup:

Saturday AM I went to the lake and swam the course. I was using a different wetsuit so I want to see how I would be able to swim with it.... The water was cold but not to bad with the wetsuit.

Sunday I got to the race, walked around set up transition and stretched. took a dip i the lake prior to start just to get wet so the initial cold of the lake would not be to bad... Met up with brea and the rest of my family saw my dogs and got ready to start....
Swim
  • 14m 34s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was great. Spotting was perfect. Had no trouble at all with the distance like I was worried about. Wetsuit saved me a lot. Keep me afloat so helped with my pacing.... Water wasnt to cold it was actually perfect.
What would you do differently?:

nothing actually I was perfectly trained for this swim. I felt great!
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

T1 was pretty slow. But when i was coming out of the water you had to run up a hill and I got really out of breath. So I decided I would walk into t1. So not to bad just first time jitters I guess.... Might have just been I was amazed at how the swim went
What would you do differently?:

Practice my swim to bike Transition. Next time have different shoes, I had road shoes so I had a buckle and I put socks on... I would have also liked to of had a tri top so I didn't waste time putting a jersey on. But overall not to bad.
Bike
  • 42h 46m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 0.29 mile/hr
Comments:

When I had rode the course the day prior I missed about 3 miles. so I didn't know there was a massive hill. I had just thought there was 1 but there was 2.

Overall bike was ok. I didn't keep a speed I wanted to but it was ok.....
What would you do differently?:

Work more on my speed. I would have liked to keep around 20+ on the bike but my legs just didnt feel like they had it in them... I would have liked to spend more tie on the bike...
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

This was a pretty decent T2. I had everything off pretty quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really
Run
  • 26m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run. I was surprised at how my legs did on this run. I had done bricks prior and my legs felt horrible. They felt great today. When My mom and step dad told me I did a 26 on the 5k I was in shock. For me not being a runner is pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around got some food. hung with my family, waited for results

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing this was my first ever race, so this was an assessment as to what I can do. And I think I can do so much better with this sport.

Event comments:

Very well organized race. I cant wait to come back and do it all again... The park is great. I highly recommend staying at the park for the weekend. so you can get time in the lake and the bike.... Worth every penny...

Nicely done. Seems like you had a great run. The nice thing about getting your 1st out of the way is now you have less to stress out about for your next one.

And yeah, 68* water is not that cold.

Nice job Kris.

Deer Creek Sprint ('01) was my first triathlon also. I can remember most of it like it was yesterday.

It's a great feeling to get the first one under your belt.
