David, I won't make out with you either. But for reasons completely unrelated to the swine flu you have contracted.

Goes for you too Tom. You're married.

FYI, we had some trouble finding a decent hotel for the race... the only place I found that had rooms on the south side of Columbus was a Days Inn that was reviewed as "a great place for truckers". Whatever that means, I'm not sure I want to know! Then made reservations at a place called Country Hearth or something, only to discover that it's the kind of place where hourly rates would be the norm. Canceled that res FAST!!! We decided to stay in Circleville, which appears to be only 15 min or so from the race. Found a reasonably priced room on rt 23...

Yes, Circleville is only about 15-20 min. away. and easy to get to Deercreek. The best thing to do when going over there is not follow the signs. They take you out too far. From your hotel go 23 north to 22 west (Circleville / Main street exit) Travel around 10 miles and just past a one stop light town called Williamsport is a turn off. It is right before the golf corse. This turn will be on the right side of the road. Turn right on to Crownover road. (yes this is part of the bike course) Crownover road will dead end into the damn. Turn left go up the hill and then turn right into the park.

If you need any other info about Circleville just ask. aka good Italian place to eat or to except very slow service from Roster's which is right down from your hotel.

Pickaway Co. Chamber of Commerce and the Vistors Center have contacted HFP about the hotels in Circleville but they still are not listed.

Good Luck to all racing in all distances.

I'm going to do a very short, very easy S/B/R today; 60 min total including transitions...just enough to take the edge off my taper headache! And just between us, my husband is tapering also and I'm ready to kill him!!!! So ironic that the easiest physical part of training is the mentally draining part! Auuugh!

Based in the fact that the atomic number of Iron is 26 if one finishes a Half Iron Man does that make him an Aluminum Man (13)?

I'm gonna go get my stuff ready now.  See you tomorrow.

WOW!!!  Whoever said that course is flat ... I hope they get a big zit on the tip of their nose.  I was warned about the wind but MOTHER OF GOD!!
Anyway, my FIRST 70.3 and I was happy with my performance.  How about you??   I met/saw a few of you guys: saw Brue, Alice and "Bananatoes" - great to have a few familiar faces around - esp. for me b/c I was all alone   Alice's husband said hi, too, and he came back to take a pic of me

The day turned out to be quite nice ... I'll put the wish for no wind up there with winning the lotto with a huge jackpot.  But, I really felt so proud of myself for completing this race

The 2nd loop of the run I was getting terrible cramps in my arches and calves - that SUCKED!  It brought me to a walk every time.  Will this get better when I amp up the mileage?  Any suggestions?  I walked as long as it took to settle them down then right back to running - I kept pushing, which I'm proud of.  My mantra while doing this: If it was EASY, everyone would do it!

Congrats to all of you!!!  Looking forward to race reports.  I'm presently in too much pain to do it ... but never fear, I will when I''m better.  One little note - did you guys see like hundreds of Wooly Bear Caterpillars???  I made a little game of counting them - got to 100 and then got annoyed!  A few were run over by bikes - oh, the carnage!   It was a good distraction from focusing on the bike, the wind, the pain, etc.

Peace out!

I WAS COUNTING THE FUZZY CATERPILLARS TOO! Too funny! Everyone else notice how incredibly smooth a few of those roads were?!?

This was my first Half, and my slacking on the training over the past three weeks (vacation then school started) became quite apparent.

I finished running, which I guess is good. But my knees were toast almost immediately in the run, and the whole second lap I was just waiting for them to simply explode. Plus I took about an hour longer than I was hoping/guessing.

My knees are toast, and my stomach is a bit funky now due to the massive amount of Accelerade intake on the bike, then Heed intake on the run. Plus plenty of gels throughout the whole thing.

I had to do it (a half) and now I know... not for me... at least not right now. I do these things (tri's) for fun, and this was not fun for me. I'll be back next year to tear up some more Sprints and Olympics.

I did get second in my age group, but I think there were only 3 or 4 total guys in it.

EDIT: And WTF was up with them handing out lake water at the aid stations?!? My water was literally darker than my Heed! Plus my dad (spectator) got a bottle of water, thought it tasted funny so he opened it up and saw it was BROWN WITH CRAP FLOATING IN IT!

i'll get a quick report up soon,

but in brief:

been sick for a long time, not much training the past month between that and moving twice.

race rolled around, felt ok this morning, decided to go hard and see what happened, if it went well ok, if not i would pull out and recover.

swim went amazingly well, came out of the water in 25-26 min (didnt look at my watch till part way up the hill). i was far enough ahead of 2nd place out of the water that someone on shore told him he was in first.

bike went well, was flying by people from the sprint and OLY races, and on lap two i started catching the tail end of the half people, and was up near midpack by the time i made it through lap three.

came off the bike with a 2-3 min lead over jeff coudron, and just started running, knowing it would be a short while that he ran me down. i ended up holding him off most of hte first lap, near the park entrance he went by, and a few sec later the guy that ended up winning went by.

a mile later the wheels came off and i knew the lack of training/being sick for so long were finally catching up, and decided to pull the plug.

would have been fun to see if i could have held onto 3rd (4th place was 11 min back), but i had nothing left.

however i am very very happy with how things were going up until that point, and i feel i finally have the pacing down on the bike to allow me to run afterwards. now i just need to work on the running so i can stick with those guys!!!

i was the one on the black and white cervelo with a navy blue one piece suit.

nice job everyone!!!

Nice day, but a little on the windy side for me.

But a PR by a minute & change.

I'm thinking I've had enough HIM's for now. (This was my 7th, and the older I get, the longer 70.3 miles seems.) Maybe I'll concentrate on Oly's.

Great job to all. Race report later.

I pretended I was playing frogger with the caterpillars. I was trying to zip between them before them got smushed.

You mean water isnt supposed to be brown? Well I drank alot of the lake during the swim and I drank that during the bike and the run and I havent been affected yet. Maybe that was the ironman portion of the race - rust in the water?

It was a long day (5:05 race, gone from home 12 hours).   I had a good swim and bike.  My run started rough but got smooth after a mile.  Unfortunately the bottom dropped out at the half way point and I had to will myself to keep moving.  I finished in pain from numerous blisters (socks anyone?) leg muscle pain, hunger, fatigue, and stomach cramps.  I didn't realize until later I was also sun burned.

Not sure if I need to avoid this distance because it takes too much training time and the event wound up being painful OR if I need to do it one more time to correct for my mistakes.

Great job to all who raced.  Fun to see a lot of you there.

I was handed rusty water too. It was at the run turn around point. I asked for water, looked at it and figured, "oh well, I'm thirsty" and drank it anyways. As soon as I drank it, I thought, "What the hell was that?" It didn't make me feel funny so I kept trucking along.

Newbz,  I saw you coming into T2 and heading out for the run. You were looking strong and moving fast. Sorry to hear about your 2nd lap.

Brue, by loking at the race results, you would never be able to tell you had the issues that you did. Great job!

Congrats to everyone who raced! This was my first Oly and it couldn't have went better for me.

my water/computer and the split timing are the same t otal time, but off on the splits (wtf?)

they are saying 20:10 swim, i had 24 min to the ends of transition, but my bike computer said 2:33 and htey are giving me 2:38, so maybe something got messed up there.

same total time though.

23:xx out of the water, 2:33 or so on the bike.

first few miles of the run around 7:12, then it all just crumbled. time to start planning next year!

THE BAD: OK, so the wind was ROTTEN! Between getting slapped in the face with waves whenever I popped my head up and the headwind on Crownover, I was pretty annoyed. And the fact that my bike computer chose to mysteriously quit working just before the race.

THE GOOD: 31 minute PR (5:15); Swim PR by over 2 minutes; 2nd OA female; someone handed me a delicious cup of purple gatorade at the 2nd turnaround after taking away my heed; and my husband had an awesome day (4:33 in his first HIM ever).

Overall, I was really happy with the day but could have done without the wind and trying to hunker down in the water before the (late) race start. Alice, I saw you on the run but I didn't have enough extra air to say hello!!

BTW- Did anyone see on the results where the 1st OA male was disqualified... had a 34mph bike average. Did he just do one loop?

MINE TOO!!!  I think it was a moisture issue.  It works fine now.

His time is too slow to miss a whole loop - I think he skipped the spur once - maybe both times.

Thjt puts your husband 3rd overall!  You are one FAST couple

You are really fast in the water but I thought that time seemed a little too fast and ytour bike time seemed a little slow. - it was some timing glitch.  i would say you 24 and 2:33 are right
