Oh and I also dread a heavy rain but i'll race just the same

Ditto. I can always hope that my training in the rain will put me ahead of those who drop out or get discouraged when wet. Once you're wet, you're wet. For me, riding a race in a thunderstorm is much safer than commuting home from work in a thunderstorm, which I have also done.

Just curious, would anyone consider a blinky light or anything if it is storming? It just occurred to me that there is the occasional car on the course.... When I train or commute in the rain, I have a lot of safety gear that I would not use in a race. But maybe I would. I don't want to get hit.

by the time we get out on the roads there will already be 400+ people out there, if cars have not already seen that, a light is not gonna help you much i dont think.

racing in the rain is not an issue for me so far, no more blisters than normal (you should be running in tech and not cotton socks anyway if you wear them at all).

fever is not too bad (hovering 99-101), HR is up, chest/throat/head backed up bad, throat feels like absolute crap.

hopping i kick this quickly, the Dr i talked to here said the kids in better shape are getting over it much faster than those not in shape, so we'll see.

either way he said once the fever breaks i should be good to go as far as being around people, poss not racing though (assuming it does get better soon)

I was going to post that my goggles broke last night and try to garner some sympathy for my frantic search for a pair to wear for Sunday but captain swine flu just sucked up all available sympathy.

In case anyone has questions about the vaccine (sorry D too late for you) we dont have it yet (we are an infusion chemotherapy oncology and hematology clinic) and the doses will be ordered and distributed by physicians in October sometime. However each state will be doing its own rationing and Ohio has not yet decided yet who (young, old, sick, healthcare workers) and it what order they will be releasing the vaccine. The trend seems to be under 25, people caring for those under 25, healthcare workers. 65 and up are last in line for this particular strain. Symptoms are rather non specific but it is always fever + one of the following (chills, muscle pain, cough, diarrhea). Spreads the same way normal colds spread (sneezing, coughing). Wash hands and dont let people infected touch your bike or water bottles. All serious events related to the disease have come in younger people with other medical issues (infections, suppressed immune systems, etc). There have been no fatalities in the US in those under 25 who were healthy prior to contracting the virus.

FYI, we are going to be in Site 1 at the campground.
That should be easy to remember!
So come by and say hello if you are camping before the race.

docheindeldvm - 2009-09-21 8:37 PM  This is my first and I was impulsive in signing up.  My thought process was that if I had one HIM under my belt, I would know better how to prepare for my second in June.
Good luck! This will be my 3rd HIM, and I remember being really freaked before my first and second (I actually cried a little). Make sure you remember to enjoy it! During my 1st (last year's Great Buckeye) I was so uptight, and then I got on my bike and thought, "Hey, I'm really doing this!"The whole day improved after that.See you at the swim start and maybe in transition area (I have a hot pink Trek with black flames on it and my race suit is light bluish purple 2xu). Hunt me down if you need to destress by chatting with a random stranger!

hmmm.  my wife had all of those symptoms starting Thursday, hit it's height Sunday and today she is symptom free except fatigue.

i wonder if she had the h1n1 and worse - will my mild sore thoat be h1n1 by saturday or is it just another bout with my allegies?

i am arriving Sunday morn at 6:30.  see everyone there.  i have now decided to try for sub 4:30.  if i swim at Best Sprint tri pace I can finish in less than 30 minutes, get on the bike and ride Best Sprint tri at 22mph avg and then Best Sprint pace in the half marathon with a 6:05 mile pace

so that is BS + BS + BS = DNF ...oh nevermind

FYI, we had some trouble finding a decent hotel for the race... the only place I found that had rooms on the south side of Columbus was a Days Inn that was reviewed as "a great place for truckers". Whatever that means, I'm not sure I want to know! Then made reservations at a place called Country Hearth or something, only to discover that it's the kind of place where hourly rates would be the norm. Canceled that res FAST!!! We decided to stay in Circleville, which appears to be only 15 min or so from the race. Found a reasonably priced room on rt 23...

Emmie -
Thanks for the description.

I have a full wetsuit (longsleeve) for the swim by Promotion. It has writing on the front of the neck, which is unusual.

On the bike I have a black Felt with 650 wheels. I wear LOUD green trishorts and usually a bra top with no shirt, but if it's cold I'll wear an UnderArmor black and gray shirt. My helmet has some Celeste green on the front of it.

White hat on the run with pinkish-amber sunglasses.

Hello all!! Wow this board is active today!!! Anyhooooo... I'm stuck with my taper! Not sure what to do and what NOT to do today, tomorrow and Sat. Saturday I work until 5 then I'm driving down to check in at the Deer Creek lodge. Probably don't need to do anything on Saturday! Other than get to bed early!! Today I did 90 min yoga. Probably good enough, right? Suggestions welcomed!I am a redhead (pic on my profile page), I will be wearing Triabetes race gear (although it will be covered by a wetsuit for the swim. If we don't have restrictions on cap color, mine will be orange and say Triabetes. You probably won't have any problem identifying me, as I'll probably be the only one there sporting the gear Best of luck to everyone!!!Tiff

yep your training is over forthis race - the yoga you did today is enough.

Friday the last day for a maintenance workout - easy no more than 30 minutes.  -nothing is fine here too

Saturday is a rest day (which for some means 10-30 minutes easy run, bike, or swim.)
For me it will be a total rest day.

i'll have some PJ pants and long sleeve shirt on prior to the race.  Racing in blue LG tri shorts -no wetsuit, biking with a neon green/yellow jersey, running shirtless or maybe a tech T (prob white) - bike is a red.grey schwinn prologue.

i think i'll shave too.

hfp racks by race number, right?
I am not making out with brue either...
i'll make out with anyone who can get past my post race smell
