Subject: Anyone use a handheld water bottle for running?
I just haven't been happy with my Nathan's fuel belt for running and considering my other options.   I've seen some pics of runners using some type of handheld water bottle for running.   I thought it would be cumbersome to carry on long runs (10-12 miles).   However, the ones i think could be worth trying are the ones that have a strap of some kind that tightens to the hand.

Anyone use some sorta bottle for long runs and can recommend one to me?

I've used fuel belts, a belt that holds a water bottle diagonally against your back, one that sits horizontically on your back, watter bottles that have a strap for your hand and a big ol gelbot water bottle,,...  i'm sure there are a bunch more i tried when training for my first marathon.  The best water bottle i've ever used was a small gatorade bottle that i just held in my hand.  It all depended on how fast i was running though.  I think a fuel belt was good for running fast and ones that were held around my waist were good for long runs...  I use to be real finicky about carrying things when i ran but now i don't really care so a gatorade bottle works fine.  wow this was a loooooooooong response that probobly wasn't to helpful... sorry...

I use one on all of my runs longer than one hour.  I have one made by Nathan, and one made by Ultimate Direction.  I find them easy to run with and convenient, much more so than ones around my waist or on my back.

I use the Nathan Quickdraw Plus Handheld 22-Ounce Bottle Carrier with Pocket and I love it. It was awkward the first few times I carried it but now it feels natural and I use it on every single run.

i've used both a Fuel Belt and a Amphipod w handstrap.

i dislike the hand bottle because while i've only ran 5 miles with it- i could totally see the weight of that bottle feeling like it has tripled on longer runs! i'd much rather have freed up hands to avoid struggling with extra weight at a appendages end...

I carry just a regular water bottle. Have done so for 4 marathons and 35 miles of an ultra. Don't mind it one bit and save a few $.
