The plan this morning was to do the whole trail, about 55kms, but I got a flat.
1. This happened at the furthest point from home.
2. These new rims are a b!tch to work on. With the old ones I didn't even have to use the levers, now I seem to need vise grip, pliers, chisel, hammer etc.
3. Took the tire off, put a new one in and it leaks! I pinched the new tube with the levers... great. Btw, I carry 4
(yes FOUR
) plastic tire levers, on theses rims they just snap like a match.
4. Back to the old tube, patched it, put it on... and it leaks too! Great, now I'm out of luck, no more tubes! And I'm not pushing this thing for 18kms home. That's 3hrs!!!
5. Took the tube out and found another small hole! The thorn that punctured it went through the other side too. The holes are too far apart, I need to put 2 patches on. No big deal, but it looks weak. Really weak.
6. The whole thing happened in a park where during the last storm the sewer overflowed forming a big pond full of crap. The smell was absolutely putrid.
7. Since it's warm and there's a 'pond' next to me, I have swarms of mosquitos biting my a$$ and back. I even swallowed some.
8. Tube finally works
(half an hour later
) and I'm headed home, but going through a patch of sand that turned out to be 2" deep
(!
) I lost it and wiped out. No biggie, no injuries and the bike is fine. I just feel like an idiot. Few people asked me if I was OK...
Well, comparing to what?
9. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
10. I could take a picture of my a$$, it looks hilarious covered with mosquito bites,
(we had a good laugh at home
), but let's just leave it. I better have some good coffee.
