My swimming has come a long way since last August, but I want to get faster, so I am looking to purchase a swim training system and I am not sure which to get. Total Immersion or the one offered by TriSwimCoach. Do you have any experience with both. Are they bascially the same technique with different packaging?

If possible I would suggest getting a coach, best way to get faster IMO.

I used the TI method for a while and it did improve my technique.  However I have seen real improvement since starting masters sessions with a coach.  IMO you should spend the money on a coach or at least join group sessions where other swimmers will push you to improve.

Two post's for getting a coach. Maybe I should get a coach.

Does Master's Swim coaches teach open water swim techniques. I thought the OWS  stroke was a little different than pool swim strokes?

Slightly different, but not enough that learning a really effective pool stroke wouldn't cross over easily. x3 on getting a good stroke instructor and working with some good Masters swimmers.

I have the the TI video(good) and read the 1st ed book(not good).
I've seen the TriSwimCoach vids on youtube and actually met Kevin.
IMO they are both the same, so if you had to choose, go with the cheaper option.

So does the Triswimcoach video use the same techniques as TI?

My issues is that I grew up in the water, feel comfortable in OW, endurance is fine, but I am SLOW.  I read the TI book and got my stroke count down to 17 but I am slower than ever.

I am just starting an Oly plan now (after finishing the sprint plan) and will be spending more time in the water than ever. I want to fix bad habits now so I'm not reinforcing them with the increased training.

Local pool offers private instruction - I have filled out the forms twice over the last month and even dropped them off in person the second time. Left 2 messages since then and no one will call me back. Since that's not panning out, I'm looking for a video to pointe me in the right direction. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!

ADDED:  Also, I saw an earlier post saying the triswimcoach.com site had links to local intructors but I can't find it on their page.  Kevin, if you see this, can you let me know how to access that info? Thanks. DUH, just found it

I've got both DVD's, and they're pretty much the same ideas, just slightly different terminology.  I tend to like the Tri Swim Coach DVD better, though I think you'll get the same level of instruction from either.  I'd recommend either of the DVD's if you can't afford a coach, and once you get the basics down try a Master's program.

I like the www.triswimcoach.com (Kevin Koskella) method.  He explains things well and his approach is most like the one of my in person coach available at the gym.  Nothing worse than getting conflicting sets of instuctions on swimming which is so technical to begin with.

TI helps to learn how to relax and make swimming as effortless as possible.  I'm not sure that it helps with speed, but if you're training for swims greater than .5 miles and want to survive the swim, then TI is a good option.

Neither. Go swim with a master's class.  It will do wonders

getting a handful on individual lessons from a swim coach,, and then swimming with a masters group where the coach on deck was actively watching what you were doing and would explain them to you was by far the best money I have spent in this sport
