Subject: More noob transition questions

Next Sunday is my first Tri and I have a few questions for the fine folks here. To let you guys know this is a reverse sprint and I have no real Tri specific attire and I will be on a mountain bike.

Ok for T1 I will just be grabbing my bike and helmet. I plan to just use my running shoes. Is there any down side to this for a guy just looking to finish?

As you guys can guess I have not planed/practiced my transitions as of yet. This week will be the first time I address that lol. Any other advice people can think of to give me would be greatly appreciated.

less is more.

the more you can eliminate from transitions the better.

you'll be more than fine with sneakers and you'll be faster than those with clipless pedals.

reverse tri means Run Bike Swim?

Sounds like you'll have a fast T1

Yep, less is more, your running shoes will be fine on the bike, don't over think it, you'll do fine.

Advice: have TWO pair of goggles in your bag - it sucks to go to swim and have a lost/broken pair etc.... trust me...

Good Luck, and Have Fun!!

Thanks guys!

I might get another pair of goggles. The ones I use now have a slight leak on the bottom inner corner. So I can have 2 pair

Remember that anytime you're handling your bike you should have you helmet on and buckled.  On my first one, I made the mistake of unbuckling my helmet as I was running my bike back to the rack after I had dismounted.  Essentially, anytime you are touching your bike, you should have your helmet on and buckled.

Not per USAT rules, which say your helmet should be buckled whenever you are on  the bike.

Does someone have a link to the rules for USAT.  Either I'm challenged, or the website isn't exactly intuitive.  I went through my first sprint last weekend with no problems, but it would be smart to read up on the rules.

Thanks in advance.

Rules can be found HERE, under the "Resources" tab, then "For Officials."
