Subject: Tri Shoe fit
I ordered the Forte CT110 tri shoe from Performance Bike the other day and I'm not sure it fits.  Size 44, just like my Specialized brand road shoes but I have an extra 1/2" or more in from toe to shoe tip.  The rest of it feels pretty snug, but I'm not sure this is a good fit.  Ultimately I think they're going back but am I right about that not being a good fit?

i'm no pro, but i think shoes are goin to fit and feel differently to all people. there's no written law as to how a shoe should be. consider something that fits comfortably. be aware of arch fit of the shoe. Make sure the ball of your foot is in proper position in the shoe for comfortable pedaling.

I'm in a pair of LG tri shoes, size 44 (i wear US size 9-9.5). They are a tad long, as my toes arent completely in the toebox but width and all around fit is perfect. but again i dont pedal with my toes...I guess the only thing u can do is try it out and go from there in your adjustments.

Good luck!

I've been mountain biking for years and alll my bike shoes have fit more like a dress shoe then a running shoe meaning I don't have extra room in the toe but also my toes aren't hitting the front of the shoe.

Cycling shoes should be a really tight fit. I wear a 45 regular shoe, but use 43 for my road and tri shoes.

i'd like to disagree with your statement. tight fitting shoes on the bike do not allow for the expansion of your foot once you start loggin miles/hours. If the shoe is tight, this will lead to discomfort and poor pedaling.

Can you explain this?

and as for the drop in your numbered size, this will vary with every manufacturer, as no sizing is consistent. So saying that you should wear 2 sizes smaller would be not valid.

I agree with Halfpint on this.   My toes would be numb in about 10 seconds flat if I wore tight cycling shoes.  I prefer ones that have a plenty of wiggle room in the toe box...but that's just me.

Though you'll find that most people suggest the tight fit, I don't agree with it either. I order a size bigger for my running shoes, and 1/2 bigger for my bike shoes.

Each make and model will have a different fit. And depending on when you try them on, whether it's in the morning or in the afternoon, where your foot is a bit more swollen, it will fit differently.

I personally don't like the performance brand shoes, what a waste of money for me. There's some things to skimp on but shoes, at least for me, is not one of them.

I would be careful to with fit...I suffer from morton's neuroma.  I recommend finding a balance and a comfortable fit.
