I got some as a sample..is it something for shorter more intense workouts to replace sweat or is it more like a sports drink? It doesn't have calories, so I don't understand exactly when it's used.

Because it fizzes I only drink it post workout as a recovery drink--- IMO after it's old & flat, it tastes like bucket o'sweat, blechk.

FYI don't let the tablets get wet, even just from moisture, they'll start fizzing, and if left in a bottle unawares, it rots.  It's kinds of expensive also, but effective.

I  used it for all of my long runs last summer, in combination with gels, and it worked great. It's not really fizzy in that it's like drinking soda - not carbonated, and I never gound that it gave me any problems in that regard. It can be used for any length of workout, but it's for electrolyte replacement only, not calories. I don't like sports drink, and the heat really bothers me, and I found that on really bad days, it was more effective than plain water. Since I was getting calories from gels, I wasn't concerned about the lack thereof in Nu'un. Plus, the taste is very light - it's not cloyingly sweet like sports drink. But I agree - once it's flat, it's not as tasty, though it will last about 24 hours in the fridge before it gets gross.

No carbs or protein, it's not a lot of help as a recovery drink other than re-hydrating. Your muscles will be much happier if you give them 100 to 200 calories of carbs and protein along with some electrolytes.

I tried it, it was OK but has no real use for me. Any workout for a duration long enough to deplete ones electrolytes is long enough to depleter glycogen stores as well so you might as well have a sports drink with some calories in it along with electrolytes. That's my personal experience, but heavy sweaters or those who are cramp prone may find Nuun more useful.

For the first time I just tried using nuun mixed in with carbo-pro.   The carbo-pro is the calories and the nuun is the electrolytes & flavor.

I use it to hydrate before a workout, but never during.  It's also good for hangovers Laughing

I use it mostly on the bike for rides under ~30 miles, and occasionally post-long swimming sessions. - i don't like bringing a water bottle to the pool. It's also good for LONG rides when access to replenishing sports drinks may not be easily available.

I don't know if others do this, but I have added agave or raw sugar to the bottle to give it some carbs. I like it because I can control exactly how much sugar is going into the bottle. I find most sports drinks to be cloyingly sweet. I won't add if I have enough nutrition on board to make up the lost calories.

That said as soon as my current batch of nuun runs out I think i'm going to start making home made sports drinks. Nuun is good in a pinch though - so nice to have a tube around...

I was thinking after a good sweaty session. I had samples of the tri berry and orange ginger and can't tell if  I like it or not. It definatley needs to be cold, I've figured that much out so far.

I use it for less than 1.5-2 hour rides.  I like have a little variation over just water but I don't like the overly sweet sports drinks so this is a nice balance for me.  If I think I'm going to be out more than 1.5 hours I'll also take gel or chewies.
