Swim
Comments: I was the second wave out and got the most beat up on a swim to date. Nothing too bad but I am usually all alone so the elbows to the head and feet grabbing was distracting. I thought I was swimming better than my time. I was hoping for a max. time of 25 min and was shocked when I got out and saw my watch. I did navigate really well - the optical googles are a huge help. What would you do differently?: Keep hitting the laps at the pool. Transition 1
Comments: I missed my bike rack so that probably cost me about 15 seconds. I also did not run up the short steep hill out of transition and there were people blocking the mount line. I did do a good job of running to transaction. Age group rank - 10 Overall Female rank - 66 What would you do differently?: Pay attention to the numbers on the bike racks. Bike
Comments: I did not have the crowding or drafting issues that other people did. Yes, it was crowded and that in itself made the course technical. I was happy w/ my bike although I faded a bit on the third loop. I really need to get better about drinking and eating on the bike. Nutrition is becoming an issue. I really wanted water on the third lap and a gel would have been nice and maybe kept my energy up. What would you do differently?: Keeping putting in miles on the bike and get comfortable eating/drinking on the bike. I was pretty happy w/ this ride. Transition 2
Comments: I was pleased w/ this transition. I rode right up to the line, hopped off and ran to my rack. Shoes off and bike shoes on quickly. I put my race number on while heading out. What would you do differently?: Not much - I was happy. Run
Comments: I started off pretty good and wanted to try and make myself run hard. Push a little past the comfort zone. I did that part ok but the good thing is I felt strong for the entire run. I would have been a lot faster w/o the long hill in the middle of loop that we did twice. The short trail run was a bit of a surprise and I was glad the leaves weren't wet. All in all not a bad run but not as fast as I wanted. What would you do differently?: I have been working on attacking hills and I just need to get better at that for the races that have hills in them. It's frustrating to run around 8 min miles then have a hill suck the time away. Post race
Warm down: I walked to the parking lot and found Karla. She had a great race. Tony showed up a few min. later w/ bike and bag in hand. I guess I was too slow for him. ;-) What limited your ability to perform faster: I just need to keep at it. I'm still building a base and haven't even gotten to the point where I can train to go faster if that makes sense. I hope next year I can make more time oriented and placing type goals. I think being competitive in my AG is possible but I need a few more thousand miles under my belt first. Event comments: This was one of the better set up races in terms of swag and after race food. The event was well run as usual and on time. I liked the course. The volunteers were great and so was the community. Last updated: 2009-01-09 12:00 AM

Tony and I slept at my parents house which is about 5 min. from the race site. I got up around 5:15am and ate some toast w/ pb and half a banana. We drove over to the race parking and then biked from there.
Two miles on the bike to the race site. There was a small hill so the HR got up a bit.
