A little early, but I wanted to report my success.  I've found inspiration here, and maybe my reaching an important milestone will help others.

After last Thanksgiving, I weighed 260 and had a fuzzy image of completing a tri before I turn 50 (six months from now).

January 1st, got off the couch, and started walking 2-3 times week.

March 1st, started a couch to 5K running program.  Decided I could make my goal of completing a tri before I turned 50 and decided to enter the Nation's Tri in September.  Huge commitment.  Still couldn't run 2 minutes yet.

May 1st, began the 20 week Olympic Tri training program.

Yesteday I swam 1900 yards, biked 27 miles, and this morning  I ran 5.1 miles at a 10 minutes pace.

Today, I weighed 198, my BMI is 29, and I've lost 60 lbs.  No longer obese!  My first tri will be in 3 weeks with 2 of my sons.  Can't wait! and I'm looking forward to even more.  IM before 60?

Congratulations!

Sounds like you won even as you line up to do your first triathlon.

IM before 60 yes if you want it..enjoy the journey and don't rush it. I went from weighing over 250 to doing my first IM almost 100 pounds lighter 5 years later.

I found that losing weight I touched many more folks that I ever expected or knew. I love that my husband started tri'ing this year and has lost 30 pounds, 4 of 5 of our kids have done tris and are making healthier choices in many ways in life.

btw - please don't get me wrong.  Clydesdale (and Athena) triathletes are awesome.  I just don't want to be one.  "Slow Fat Triathlete" by Jayne Williams was one of the first books I read, and is very inspirational.  Funny, and highly recommended.
