I thought this part was interesting.

A study published in March, for instance, that compared the bone densities of weight lifters, runners, and cyclists found that the cyclists had lower bone mineral density than the runners or the weight lifters. In another study, triathletes added moderately to their bone mass over the course of a season."

No, but lack of weight bearing exercises throughout your life is.

Huh?  How do you mean?  If you mean it's doesn't offer the bone strength building properties of impact types of exercise, that is true but that doesn't make it bad for your bones, just not as beneficial as some other types of exercise.  One of the reasons triathlon is so good, you get the impact of running too!

ETA: There was no article posted when I answered so I thought there was no explanation of your question.

Only for your butt bones if you're not wearing pad-lined shorts.

ugh.  correlation does not equal causation

lack of weight bearing activities/exercise will lead to lower bone density.  not cycling.

Cool thing about being a triathlete is we do plenty of weight bearing activities with all the running we do.

I suspect nutrition may play a role in this when it comes to competetive cyclists. There was another post a couple days ago referring to an article that indicated that something like 20% of riders on the TdF would meet the criteria for anorexia or bulemia. I can certainly imagine that not taking in enough calories (including adequat calcium) + sweating out "hundreds of mg of calcium" + lack of weight bearing exercise could contribute to lower bone density. I can't imagine it would be nearly the issue for recreational cyclists who are not spending hours/day, day after day, on their bikes.....
