Pre-race routine:

Got up around 8:00 AM. Ate breakfast and headed to the race location. Got there really early. Picked up my packet and sat around with Anday chatting and waiting for the swim warmup to happen.

Realized that the new Speedo Pro goggles I had probably weren't going to fit (couldn't make the nose piece small enough). Luckily I brought my other ones, where the anti-fog has bubbled on them, but I can see out of the center, just not on the sides.

Andy was really nice and offered up his spare pair of goggles to see if they would work for me. The nose piece was not adjustable, so I doubted they would work, but it was worth a shot.

Due to the fact that I am swimming 3 miles in open water on 7-11-09, I opted to do all 3 of these swim races. It ended up being exactly 1.5 miles, so perfect training the weekend before my longer race!

Event warmup:

Got in with one pair of goggles on and the other pair shoved in my bathing suit. Needed to see which pair would work. Both filled with water when I swam, because they were too far apart on my head and didn't fit into my eye sockets properly.

Great. Plan B. Wear the goggles I can hardly see out of.

Swam for approximately 15 minutes warming up. It always takes me a good 800-1000 yards to get warmed up, so figured 15 minutes would be a good amount. It was.

Comments:

Got in the pack, pointed myself towards the first bouy and looked for something on short to sight off of. Since I could barely see out of my goggles I knew I had to sight off something large.

Worked great, and I swam a good line to the first bouy. Made it to the second one and then sighted on the large building behind the exit stairs. Made my way to exit and the swim was done!

Even though this was the shortest of the 3 distances, I didn't get beat up at all. That was nice.

Once out of the water, I walked back over to the starting area to get ready for the 750 meter swim!

Stayed for the awards, since there was a small group of people. Figured I would cheer for the winners since they were giving out awards for first place female/male overall. I was shocked to find out they were doing first place for age group/gender!

I was even more shocked to learn that I got first place in my age group for the 300, 750 and 1500 meter swims!

Walked over for the 750 meter swim next!

A good way to start off the day.

One down, two more to go.

Nice.  You swam faster in your 1500 than in the 300.  Probably has to do with the swim exit?
