Subject: Help me understand run pacing
Hi everyone, I'm currently using one of the BT training plans and yesterday's workout was the following:

80 minutes tempo
wu: 25minutes, RPE 3
main: 8 x (3t, 2r) 3t at RPE 7-8, 2r at RPE 2
cd: 15 RPE 2-3

I think I understand how this should be done but I'm just wondering if I am pacing things right (more or less).

So I mapped out the distances I covered for the warmup/cooldown and the main set and came up with the following.

For the warmup and cooldown combined, my pace was 5:50/km
For the main set - both the tempo and rest section combined - my pace was 5:16/km

Maybe there isn't enough information to answer this but I'm wondering if I'm in the right ballpark as far as differences between my RPE3 pace and a tempo pace.  I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, am I going too easy or hard for RPE3 and ditto for RPE 7-8.  If it helps for a reference, my fastest 10k is 49:35

Thanks for any advice
Arend

Forget RPE and go off your race pace.

Per the McMillan Running Calculator, your 49:35 10K gives you a tempo pace of 5:01 to 5:14 per km (8:05 to 8:26 per mile).

Sounds like you're in the ballpark.
