has anyone ever used the compression socks for either recovery or during competition?  I am interested in buying a pair and wondering if they are worth the money?  If so, are the stirrups or actually socks better in your opinion?

do a search for a thread about a month ago about compression gear - it has a lot of info.

i got the 2XU socks - they work great - although i have heard zoot are better.  i also got the ZOOT recovery tights.  i don't use compression gear during races - but i think it really helps for recovery and it is noticeable.  what sold me was wearing the socks after doing hard runs, where my calfs would be really tight. . after a few hours, the tightness went away - without the socks, foam rolling etc. did not take the tighness away.

I have recovery socks I wear after my long runs or intervels for recovery.

I also have the 2xu calf selves for racing longer distances, they seem to help. It could be in my head though. I use these for marathons and 70.3 and longer distances.

I have the 2XU recovery socks and race sleeves.  The recovery socks work.  I noticed a big difference the next day on the reduced soreness.

Also, if you have "restless leg syndrome" at night, they also help reduce that as well.

x2 on the 2xu compression socks.  Got a free pair when I bought my 2xu wetsuit.  They definitely have helped with recovery since I've used them the last few weeks.  Def worth it if you have any shin or other lower leg issues.

Are the 2XU / Zoot etc graduated?  i.e., tighter at the calf than the top of the leg, or is that something different?

I do my long runs in the Zoot compression socks.  Not sure if they help, but i like everything being all tight in there.  I will probably take the time to put them on in an IM, but I am not so concerned with time, so if it takes me a few mins to get them on, i'm ok w/ that.

I've got mine on right now (for recovery) -- love them.  I am certain that they help with recovery.

If you are looking to wear them for recovery then head to your local drug store and you can buy them there for around $10.00. They are made to help diabetics with blood flow, and they work great for recovery. They would also work for competition but they just don’t look as "Cool" as most Also this will give you an idea if they will work for you before you shell out $65.00-70.00 for a pair.

My drug store had two kinds, the cheap <$10 ones and the expensive >$50 ones, both for medical purposes.  I bought the cheap ones and yes, they work to an extent, but later I bought some sport-specific ones and they are clearly better.  The compression is better, and more clearly graduated.  Maybe the expensive drug store ones work better too.  Just my experience.
