Comments:

Well, I had to drive in to Vancouver from Chilliwack so Up at 0330. Got to Vancovuer at 0545. Really good parking space. Ate my Vector bar and noticed my stomach not sitting right-oH oh. Well, the race started and I went out. I was doing well until I took the wrong drink at the first water stop, it was Ultima, not Water. Well that threw me for a loop. But, I kept on running. I was feeling ok but thought I was going to going to puke. I felt a ball in my stomach and kept wanting to get it out. Well around mile 8 the big hill I was doing well and thought I could keep the pace up. But the Hill killed me. I never walked at all. I do not remember Mile 10-12. No recallection at all. I do remember saying to myself over and over again. Quick turnovers and don't you dare walk. YOUR NOT WALKING. I was passed quite a bit over these miles. Mile 12 I turned up a hill and pushed through it, I felt rejuvinated seeing the last mile left and picked it up a notch. I also got rid of my headphones and was listening to the crowd that had established itself at the finish. It was great. I got enough of a last mile kick to pass about 15 people and then a sprint at the end with a very fast woman who came from nowhere. Still not sure how I got the energy to race someone at the end. While crossing the finish though I felt dizzy, and nauseated. I made it throught that part ok and the race was finished. I beat my expectations. I wanted to run the Half in under 2 hours and did. I am pleased with my result and glad that I left everything on the course, one of my Mantra's before the run.

What would you do differently?:

Train more, Not eat an energy bar prior to my run.
Stay in Vancouver and get more sleep.
Bring my family to cheer me on.

Post race
Warm down:

Just a walk around and a cool down stretch.
Ate some good food and took off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My stomach.

Event comments:

This was my first half.
I am stoked that I finished and can not wait until the first Tri now.

Bring it on!

Hey Dan,

That's a really good run. 1:41 is really flying, so even though you can't remember it, you must have been doing something right between miles 10 and 12.

I'm looking forward to seeing your race report from your first tri. Your time is gonna be fast.
