Swim
Comments: This was a time trial start with about 3 seconds between swimmers. It actually was rather continuous as we made our way from scootching in the water to the end of the pier for the start. I've never done a swim that long that was just a straight point-to-point. I'm so used to have to go around buoys every several hundred yards. So, it made it feel long. But we had the current with us, and I really wanted to have a good time, so I focused on not being lazy in the water and swimming at a reasonably hard pace (for me...I'm not very fast). When I got out of the water and realized my swim was between 29 and 30 minutes, I was pretty happy. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a very good swim for me. Transition 1
Comments: Long run, up stairs to transition. Then, I was discombobulated because I am not used to racking by my bike seat and had my stuff on the wrong side. Doh. What would you do differently?: Set up my transition area correctly. Bike
Comments: Started with technical difficulties because my aero bottle was not in correctly. Took me 2 stops to get it right. Then, my other water bottle decied to pop its top. Yeesh. This course was just hard for me. The hills were long and slow. One was so long, on the way out it almost made me cry. On the way back, it almost made me pee my pants we were going so fast. I don't use my bike computer when racing, so I don't know how fast I was really going, but probably close to 40mph...for a long time...maybe a mile or so. Yikes. By the time I reached the turnaround point, I knew I was not going to be able to post the kind of time I would need to qualify for Nationals, but all-in-all, I wasn't too unhappy with my performance because I thought I ended up managing it pretty well. What would you do differently?: I need to ride more hills. Especially if Augusta is as challenging as it looks in the profile. Transition 2
Comments: I thought my transition was faster. Maybe it was the long run. Run
Comments: I was slow. I had my moments when I felt I was going a good clip, but I was heaving and had side stitches. I walked too much at the water stops. What would you do differently?: Run faster...but without blowing up. Post race
Warm down: Walking around, getting some beer and food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills that I really need to figure out how to train for. Event comments: Excellent race by Team Magic. Last updated: 2009-05-21 12:00 AM

Long, long drive to Chattanooga, and when we get there, I realize it's a bit more hilly than I expected. Checked in, picked up stuff, went to dinner, and then back to the hotel for a quick sleep. I made myself some weak coffee in the morning, and we headed over to the race area.
We couldn't get in the river to swim, and since they bussed us over to the start about a mile away, I didn't really have any means of "warming up." So, I just treated the first few hundred yards of the swim as my warm up.
