Just want to share this with you Clydes/Athenas:

About 25 miles into the bike, a group of fast guys passed me, full aero gear, disk wheels, the works. They looked to be in their 20s or early 30s. One guy turned around and said to me "Dude, you're the biggest triathlete I've ever seen!" Not really sure why he said it or what he meant by it but it made me feel pretty good that I was out there in the thick of it.

A few minutes before that, about a dozen or people missed a turned and some were WAY up the wrong road. I slowed way down and yelled for them to come back, I think he was part of this group and this was his way of saying "thanks".

Anyway, good race and I wish a speedy recovery to the 2 guys that crashed into the tree that fell across Westside Rd, I went through there right after it happened. They were both taken to the hospital with broken bones.

I like the way you took that comment as opposed to being offended.  We are bigger than the average athlete and at least me,  I embrase that.  Some people are wayyyy to sensitive.

Good job on the race

No, he looked very serious when he said it. I'm 6' 5", 220 FWIW. I took it as a compliment.

If I see him again, I will say in a booming voice: "Hey there little fella. Would you like to be my little buddy? C'mon, I'll let you ride on my handlebars and I'll even teach you how to blow bubbles."

I had a similar thing happen to me at this year's Shamrockin' Half Marathon in Sacramento.  I was running a 8:09 min pace into mile 10 and felt good and was passing a group of runners when this guy paced up and said "Hey!  You run pretty quick for a big guy!"

I took that as a huge compliment.  I am a big guy and I cant really change that.  I can however be the best "big guy" i can be.

I am very proud of folks like us that do this type of sport.  It is much harder for us to cover the same distances as our lighter competitors.  I am very proud of all of us that beat our lighter brothers and sister.  ROCK ON!
